Makeup manufacturers and beauty gurus have declared BB creams so last year. But what new product could possible take their place? The CC cream, of course.
While BB stands for “beauty balm,” CC is short for “Color Control” and is considered an improved and refined version of Korea’s innovative, life-changing BB cream that makeup artists raved about.
The primary difference between BB and CC cream is that the latter focuses more on color correction and concealing. It still has the lightness we love about BB creams, but is a bit more dense to help cover fine lines and wrinkles while evening out the skin’s pigmentation. CC creams still moisturize, reduce pore size and protect skin from the elements just as their BB cousin does.
As we go further into the new year, CC creams will become more widely available. At the moment, however, you can find the product at both drug and department stores in various price categories.
For example, Olay’s Total Effects CC Tone Correcting Moisturizer, a forerunner in the CC Cream craze, has been a hit since its fall 2012 debut. Another early, mid-end CC cream comes from Juice, who calls their version the Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream.
Wei East — affordable sister to Wei Beauty — is one of my personally favorite brands, so I’m delighted to see they’ve also hopped aboard the CC train. Their recently launched CC cream, dubbed the “Ideal Skin Perfect,” promises an effortless, perfectly blended finish with every use.
Brands such as Chanel, Smashbox, Luisdina and Clinique have also launched their own CC creams. And just like all the makeup lovers out there, I can’t wait to see what other brands bring to the makeup table in the coming months.
So — what’s your take on the CC cream? Are you eager to test out this new product, or will you clutch tightly to your BB creams and never let go? We’re eager to hear your thoughts, so share them with us in the comment section below.

Backstage with Sephora at Dennis Basso

Daily Vogue was lucky enough to talk to key make-up artist Kabuki about creating the look at Dennis Basso SS 2011 collection. This season Dennis Basso designed for an affluent, but younger woman: “She loves to go out, She travels. She does special occasion. No pants.”
For those used to the classic smoky make-up usually seen on the runway at Dennis Basso, S/S 2011 surprises – pleasantly.
“I added a modern twist to a classic Audrey Hepburn eye and was inspired by the futuristic youthful cut on the clothes from the collection”, explained key make-up artist Kabuki.
While the skin was polished with a light foundation (Make Up For Ever HD Foundation), lips nude and sheer (Sephora Lipstick Palette – Dolce Nude 20, Romantic Rose 18; Sephora Ultra shine lip gloss – Perfect Nude 20), the eyes stole the show – lined with Sephora Smoky Creme Liner in matte cobalt blue, turquoise and orange. Segments of false lashes and lots of mascara were applied so the color of the liner wouldn’t be overpowering. The result: a young, fun, but polished and elegant wide-eyed pixie with flashes of color.
Other products used to complete the look: for the face – Givenchy Mister Light, Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, Sephora Blush Me (Peche Tendre 04); for the eyes – Givenchy Mister Light, Sephora Nano Eyeliner (Golden Sand 07), Sephora Mono eyeshadow (Coffee Brown), Sephora Mono eyeshadow (City Fog), Make Up For Ever False Lashes, Givenchy Eyebrow Show Pencil, Make Up For Ever Concealer Pencil.
Maybe the experts are right and the dresses were not a great success, but the make-up was …unforgettable

If you watched the Olympic Opening Ceremonies you most certainly saw M.A.C. make-up artists elaborate face designs. But six M.A.C. heavyweight artists will also paint the faces for the closing ceremonies, select figure skaters and victory medal presenters. The Canadian company’s selected artists are thrilled to be a part of the Winter Games and reported that their artistry runs the gamut from elaborate and theatrical to natural and outdoorsy.
M.A.C., like Polish cosmetic company Inglot, have their roots in costume make-up but have painted the mainstream make-up palate with vivid colors, making bold and bright accessible to every woman. In fact, just last week the Times Thursday Styles reported that now more than ever woman are opting for colors and relying on their make-up artists to show them how to wear the color appropriately. Teachers, corporate executives and even bankers – at least in NYC – don’t think twice about swiping their lids with blues, plums and greens, making make-up less of a necessary chore and more of an accessory. Whether it’s a painted pink pout or a purple lid, find your inner Rainbow Bright and use her to lift you out of the cold.
And if you are still scared, visit the MAC store on Prince in Soho. Unlike the two-week trained employees at Sephora, MAC make-up artists go through both costume and everyday make-up training and have mastered the art of balancing the two.

Oh wipe away your Jersey Shore mental image. These are dainty-chic and actually, pretty rad.

You dream you’re Brittney, holding tight to Tyson Beckford speeding through Malibu or Pink with a chainsaw, carving up your ex-boyfriend’s lawn. You dream you’re Megan Fox. A girl can dream… Leave it to Chanel to find an acceptable outlet for your inner Angelina Jolie making those dreams a reality. Chanel Body Transfers are temporary tattoos inspired by models walking Karl Lagerfeld’s hay-strewn Spring 2010 runway. Oh, wipe away your Jersey Shore mental image. These are dainty-chic and actually, pretty rad.
Model Daisy Lowe sported a Chanel double C-linked chain around her thigh at the launch of her her Swarovski crystal jewelry collection in London in January. (Who ever thought we’d write that? Coco Chanel is rolling over in her grave!) But Chanel tats are delicate, whimsical and artsy. Come spring, they will be all the rage. And you’ll have to wait until then because Chanel “body transfers” won’t be available at Chanel boutiques until March 1.
