Helmut Lang Sample Sale: Another Pricey Monochrome Event
There are plenty of reasons to go to the Chelsea Market. There are numerous eateries, vendors, and of course people watching. The Helmut Lang sample sale was located in the back of the market, allowing you to get a full view of the tourist haps before heading into the sale. Security was pretty chill at this event, and we think it is because they need to keep the more high profile clientele happy. A simple peek in your bag on the way out is a bit easier to take than checking a bag every time you go to a sale. No line to get in, no checkout line, and only a small dressing room line really makes it a hassle-free experience.
High profile is definitely a way to describe this sale. Prices were not cheap and there were only simple sizes (small, medium, large, etc) available, but if you know that you prefer Helmut Lang pieces, you are scoring 60% discount on some great pieces. Loads of leather, pockets of polyester, and broad choices of blazers make this a sale perfect for the well off New York style dresser, that is, black, white and grey outfits.
First, we noticed 2 or 3 entire racks of leather ‘leggings’ on sale for $199. This seemed pricey to us, but we saw waist-length extension wearing and birkin bag clutching mamas grabbing them in pairs. They must fit well to drop a cool $400 on legwear. If you want leather pants, get your butt over there!
Blazers were another big item, on sale for $199, they cost the same as a leather jacket, however, so again we suggest that purchase. There were white blazers, black blazers, and a few different prints. The leather jacket selection was equally large and also priced at $199. Black leather was the predominant style, and there were a few different designs in black. Another color we have seen at almost every sale is soft pink leather. This was clearly a big look this year, and Helmut Lang also had a few pieces in this color, in this case a soft collarless jacket.
Denim had a short appearance, but was priced at $79 to move. Getting any designer pair for under 100 dollars is always a blessing, so trying these on is highly recommended. We saw white jeans, normal wash, dark denim wash, and black denim, all parked near the dressing room to tempt.
Near the back were a fair amount of shoes. Most styles were black and priced at $79. There were a few racks of shorts as well as cut and sew pieces for $39. Most of those were jersey knit in white or grey. Overall this sale is good for someone with a slightly fatter wallet and a chic, mostly black color profile.
