It’s been ten times around the sun for NY sample sales at The Stylish City, which in both dog and internet years makes us a venerable 70 years old. Let’s face it – it was time for a facelift.

Still, we felt something was missing. We always wanted to become the undisputed connoisseur of shopping value in the Big Apple, but now we want to also grow a tribe around our love for fashion and New York bargains. To that end, we introduce you to our vibrant Facebook group, and we want you buzzing with tips and unsponsored advice. We would love to hear from our community about sales and events near you. Don’t be shy! The information you share just might make someone’s day, or her closet.

So stick around and take part in our community. We’ll continue to find and share the best NYC events and sample sales near you. Our picks will be featured in a segment named “The 5 Essentials”, and we’ll be sure to make it a valuable resource for our fashion-forward audience.

Become a Stylish City Ambassador

Almost a year ago, we wrote an article asking ourselves: “Is the Upper East Side finally cool?

Yes, the UES had scenes from Gossip Girl and several from Sex and the City filmed here. Movie trucks are parked on the street both day and night and celebrity sightings aren’t anything out of the ordinary, either.

For example, two nights ago my dog met — and sniffed — Geraldo Rivera’s own canines (Rivera didn’t seem willing to enter into a conversation) and I am pretty sure it was Candice Bergen who stopped last year to pat the same furry companion. I should have gotten him an agent; he’s really a looker.

Still, despite our affluent, sometimes celebrity-status neighbors, we often find ourselves traveling to far away places like Soho for a good bowl of pasta. This might soon change with the opening of revered chef Michael White’s Ristorante Morini. However, considering the fact that I love Marea Ristorante and hate Osteria Morini, that is left to be seen.

Having said that, I must confess that I love my Upper East Side and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.  That’s when I got the idea: Wouldn’t be nice if we had scouts on the ground in each neighborhood? Scouts who kept everyone informed about what is happening in terms of shopping? And then I thought to myself, why can’t I be that scout?

That’s precisely why I took on the role as the Upper East Side’s Stylish City Ambassador. Take that, Ms. Wintour. This is one ambassadorship you are not going to get.

So, that covers one New York neighborhood.  What about the rest of them?  Well, I need your help.  If you want to be a Stylish City Ambassador, contact me at [email protected].

We're Getting Some Work Done

You actually thought we’d tell you if we had work done?  Well, unlike some celebs, we are okay with spilling the beans on any sudden new changes in our appearance.

Though we haven’t had work done yet, it is in our future. Today we just wanted to share that we are redesigning The Stylish City website.

Our goal is to make the site really easy to use and more well rounded, too. I know you already come here for the sample sales information, but we want you to come for those and then stay for the content. We go beyond the paid celebrity endorsements of a trend or brand to find out if it’s worth spending your money on it.

How can you help in our redesign launch? Be a good citizen and give us your input. If you are here, we know you’re an educated shopper, so do share your wisdom with our other readers.

The new format is scheduled to go live on February 2nd.  Don’t be a stranger.
