Miami Needs Help- How to (Wisely) Give Back

If you have been following us for a while, you might have suspected we’re obsessed with sample sales, style and fashion. And while we won’t deny this, in the wake of the recent hurricanes we feel it’s time to talk about ways to give back.

What follows is a quick and easy list of organizations we have reviewed, who have feet on the ground in southern Florida and could use our help.

Direct Relief

Their mission is to improve the health and lives affected by poverty and emergency. Their website clearly shows where the aid goes.

Florida Disaster Fund

State of Florida’s official private fund was established to assist Florida’s communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster.

Food for the Poor

Food for the Poor helps communities in the path of Hurricane Irma to rebuild and heal. Over 95% of your donation goes directly into food for those who need it most.

Hope South Florida

Hope South Florida is a 501c3 Christian-based non-profit that provides crisis and re-housing programs in the wake of Irma.

Giving Children Hope

Giving Children Hope works closely with their partners to stage and deliver immediate emergency response resources for Irma-impacted areas in Florida and the Caribbean.

The Humane Society

Humans aren’t the only creatures affected by Hurricane Irma. Thousands of pets are being displaced by Irma and The Humane Society provides food and shelter.

In this case, and every time you are ready to donate for a worthy cause, make sure that the organization is trustworthy. We use the Charity Navigator  and their objective ratings to find charities we can trust and support. Furthermore, we make sure the charity is directly involved in the cause we want to support, in this case the victims of hurricane Irma.

4 Reasons We Are Expanding Our Coverage To Miami

What do you think of when you hear the word “Miami”? Endless sunny beaches, a vibrant nightlife, parties galore, and enormous fun, right? We agree, and this August will expand our coverage to what industry-insiders are calling “the next fashion city”.

And we’re not alone in our fascination with Miami. Naeem Khan, Kate Middleton‘s and Michelle Obama‘s fashion designer, has moved his headquarters to the Magic City. But the fun doesn’t stop there…consider:

1) Miami’s Amazing Fashion History

We consider Miami’s burgeoning status as a fashion mecca a reboot. Just twenty years ago Miami led the country in garment manufacturing and specialized in risqué (at the time) swimwear.

2) Fashion Gurus are Moving to Miami

Rene Ruiz, a world-class dress and evening gown designer, caught the Miami fashion fever 30 years ago. The synergy between Khan and Ruiz will be as sizzling hot as the Miami beaches!

3) Fashion Education in Miami

Super-chic swimsuits, lingerie, oh-so-cute dresses, and stunning evening gowns are all being designed and shipped out of Miami. And it’s not an accident – Miami Dade is launching the Miami Fashion Institute, where aspiring designers will learn what it takes to be a cutting-edge designer.

4) The Design District

Miami is also home to Dacra, a creative real estate company that is infusing the design district with a unique blend of design, art, and architecture. And it’s working – Dior, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Cartier and Tom Ford have claimed their spot in the Design District.
