“OMG GTG 2 AA ASAP!” – Blackberries, Droids, and iPhones alike should expect to transmit thousands of these replica texts over the next 11 days. The first (hopefully annual) American Apparel Warehouse Sale kicks off today on 6th Avenue, offering up to 90% on all their merchandise – not one thing is full price, better yet, not one thing is less than half off! This deep discount is sure to please the masses, as American Apparel is known for being stingy with coupons and sales. My advice? Take full advantage!

The opposite of what I expected was displayed before me as I walked into the American Apparel Warehouse Sale – a neat, spacious area, decorated with styled manikins and orderly racks, seemingly presented to mimic the typical American Apparel store. This set up makes it easy to discover exactly what you are seeking, all while finding treasures in between. The front of the store is the hub for tall he best items, don’t pass it up to see what else they have first. Up front aren’t your basics, but seasonal and amazing items at cheap prices. Among my favorites were the Chiffon Button Ups ($25, orig.  $62 – pictured) in burgundy, polka dot, and cream, Brown Winter Jacket ($90, orig. $180 – pictured), Tied Ballet Oxfords ($20 – pictured), and the versatile Circle Scarf ($18, orig. $28-40) in various colors. All the Skirts (Denim, Woven, and Corduroy) were all lined up for $20 (orig. $45-$54).

To the right of the gigantic space is the Women’s section. Here you’ll find a blast of colors and all your basics: Cotton Leggings ($14), Cotton Summer Dresses ($20), Crewneck T-Shirts ($10, orig. $18-$27), and their famous Bodysuits ($20). I was pleased to find an innumerable amount of the Ottoman Houndstooth Jacket, which was sold this past summer, in navy or burgundy striped with cream, or black and white houndstooth ($40 – pictured). Farther back in the corner of the section, passed the plethora of swimwear, are their Highwaisted Pants ($40, orig $74-82) in burgundy (slightly faded) and black, with a few other blues, greens and creams tossed in. Their Lace Blouses, which I die for, are available in all the patterns that are sold in stores ($18, orig $38) in blacks, creams, roses, and whites.

Bid adieu to the cotton candy colored hot pants and neon jumpsuits, and head on over to the unisex section! For all you diehard American Apparel Hoodie fanatics (myself included), this is your spot. Every color and style imaginable is here, namely the classic black or grey zip ups, or the yellow and black stripe, all for $26 (versus there never-discounted $48 in store price). In the next aisle you’ll find V-Neck Cotton Tshirts ($10), we all have at least one of these in our drawers. A variety of colors in their Summer Tshirt style, Deep V-Neck, Tri-Blend Track Tee are strewn about – be careful to inspect these for mismatched threading and small stains or tears, for the most part I only noticed the black colors as a bit off in style. I sadly saw only small are for vintage, or rather their California Select brand. Nothing really worth mentioning aside from their super soft Vintage Tees ($12) and a funky display of Sunglasses ($10), but as promised, this section will be added to as time goes on.

As you make your way downstairs, to a room strictly for check out, be sure to become distracted by the nick-knacks and do-dads. Tubs of bright nail polish ($3 each) and Bare Minimal Lace Underwear ($6) are around, as well as cute Dog TShirts ($3).

AmericanApparel.net is currently running a promotion for this sale. If you purchase a $40 voucher it is good for $50 at checkout, or $80 for $100. I HIGHLY suggest doing this because, trust me, you’ll spend it! Just think: purchasing one blouse in a regular American Apparel store can equate to 3-4 items here!  RSVP to their event on Facebook for up to date info, and I’m sure future discounting as the sale nears its end **tear**.

I can’t express to you enough how amazing this sale is, namely if you count American Apparel as among your favorite stores. The best part about the American Apparel Warehouse Sale is they are unloading their trucks everyday, which means replenished stock and new items daily! Multiple trips are certainly in order; I’ll just have to clear room in my closet first.By Caitlin Colford

I was there at 10am opening day (friday) and there was a line to pay which went from the registers downstairs up the stairs and wrapped in and around the isles like a line at disney world, the line was almost out the door. I don’t think it was worth the savings, the line must’ve taken over an our maybe 2 hours to pay.
