Why Would You Deny Your Lips? It's Just Cruel!

6 April 2008

I always feel better if I apply lip balm before bed. Why shouldn’t we treat our lips to a moisturizing product daily, just as we do for our face? (Although, I hope you’re moisturizing that face twice a day!) Long gone are the days where a simple drugstore lip balm can really make me feel like I’m getting long-lasting results. It may cost less than a dollar, but I’d rather invest in my lips than pay later. I guess I’m just crazy that way.

And whether you want to wear a little black dress like Arianna discussed here, or a bright dress like Brenae discussed here – your lips will be a simple and subtle accessory.

So,freshsugarlipbalm.jpg skip the impulse buy at a counter when you’re buying some Diet Soda, and consider these choices.

While yes, it is tad more expensive than other choices of plain lip balm (I won’t try to fool you), I’m very
keen on the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm SPF 15 from Sephora ($22.50). This isn’t just a lip balm, pft – no, this is a lip treatment. It’s salvation in a little tube – a tube, I must add, that has a screw on top so that it won’t come off inside your purse. For that alone, I bow down to this product. Whatever you want in a lip balm, this has it.

Wear this under your lip sticks, lip glosses, etc – because they aren’t dong anything but looking pretty on top of whatever you have to work with. Common sense, no? This is what women over 20 want, and this is what women over 40 want. We all want lips that are attractive and kissable.

Skip Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 because it’s like wearing what I can only describe as ‘oily jell-o’. And that’s not something I’m into, you know? But do try Kiehl’s Baby Lip Balm from bloomingdale’s ($7.50). It’s marketed as balm that’s good for ‘infants and children’ but whatever your age (and don’t worry, I’m not asking!) this will work for you. As for what parents are putting this on their babies, I don’t know. But seriously, whether you need women over 20 style, or women over 40 style – this is great.
Do they really need this if they don’t live in Alaska? Maybe J-Lo will use on her twins. At least it’s less expensive thanbobbibrowntinted.jpg the diamond pacifiers they probably use. (Speaking of cost – this is one of the best inexpensive lip balms.)

Now, as I said earlier, you can layer your lip stains and glosses over a balm, but I can’t blame a gal who wants to skip an extra step. This brings us to the Bobbi Brown Tinted Lip Balm at Nordstrom ($18.00).
