Where Are Your Eyebrows? Seriously.
I don’t wanna gloat, but I have nice eyebrows. I mean, I have my own trials – I have to pluck and wax and shape them, and in what reality is that fun? But I do feel for those who have eyebrows that are light. Because that does involve an extra step. At least it should. I understand that there are those who would rather not do anything else to their brows – but if we can’t see them, then uh…that’s just not right. It isn’t. Your eyebrows frame your eyes, they anchor your face – and without them you tend to look a little funny. (Hey – it’s better I tell you here than some blind date informing you of this after you spent hours getting ready.)
I had a friend who for years would do nothing to her eyebrows, they were so pale blonde you couldn’t see them. She finally decided she’d do something and I exhaled such relief! But it was with horror that I saw her solution was to take an eyeliner pencil and just draw the stern-looking things on, they looked painted on, and not in a good way. I swear I cringe when I see this on anyone. For my sanity alone, please deal with your eyebrows! If you don’t have ones that are dark enough – there are plenty of ways to enhance them.
Let’s talk about women over 40 style. Now, sadly at this age, sometimes your hair can start to thin. So you might want to invest in more than just a powder or pencil – you might want an entire kit handy. I have heard raves upon raves about the bareMinerals Essential Brow Kit ($32.00) that you can find at Sephora. There’s no oil so it’s not going to smear. I implore you to get this.
You can also enhance your eyebrows, or help fill in spots you may have over-plucked. Don’t use an eyeliner pencil to start with. Use a brow pencil. I like the Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil ($19.00) to go under the Laura Mercier Brow Powder Duo ($24.00). Both can be found from Neiman Marcus.
Apply the powder with an eyebrow brush. Otherwise the effect will be wrong. If brows are something you need to fill in regularly get the Laura Mercier Double Ended Eye Brow Brush ($34.00) at Sephora. It’s the crème brûlée of eye brow brushes.
