Weekly Shop Report
, New York, NY
J.C. Penney is the new energizer bunny that keeps going and going and going… Their latest, rumored to sign a deal to be the exclusive Mango North America retail carrier. Mango, whose signature Cruz-sister turned ScarJo endorsed brand, MNG currently has just a few independent stores in D.C. Metro’s sprawling Tyson’s Corner, Soho, Frisco and Dallas. MNG for Mango’s deal with Penney’s makes them the largest of their brands.
Saks, Bon Ton, Talbots, Zale and New York & Co. didn’t share the same happy black news this week as they rounded Monday in the red. Fortunately, so did Crocs; and while we feel a bit bad wishing ill on anyone, we’re really just waiting for the day those wretched shoes all together disappear.
Cyber Monday is a hit! The 2008-born free shipping day of the week makes us love Monday funday because we get…free shipping. (Except on Guilt.com. They aren’t participating.) But all of your other favorites are, so wait five days and online shop til you drop. In other retail news, Christian Lacroix’s restructuring deal has been court approved. EBay paid a fine to LVMH over online perfume sales. And in a lengthy ode to luxe, Boston Consulting Group in Paris suggests new categories to expand luxe’s ever-weakening reach. And a follow up report on WWD suggests luxe reach it’s pilates-toned arms all the way to Morroco, where SJP, et. al. are rumored to be filming SATC II. Because for the duration of filming, that will be the only country to make money.
Oh, and Black Friday was okay. People were milling about, standing on queue and such, but still spending less. Maybe luxe needs to increase it’s “categorization” here first.
