Two Sales for One At Chelsea Market

Here’s the most exciting news about the Mackage sale currently taking place at the Chelsea Market: it’s actually two sales taking place in the same cavernous space. On the left: Mackage. On the Two Sales for One At Chelsea Marketright, Prive, which includes pieces from Eva Franco, Walter, and Walter by Walter.

The Prive sale is amazing, beginning with the plethora of Eva Franco dresses on offer. At just $65 a pop, it’s tempting to refinish your wardrobe. Start with a simple grey sheath enlivened with metallic thread. Or how about a retro chic sheath of black velvet chevron stripes atop grey tulle? We drooled over a sexy grey dress with an attached necklace and tough girl black studded belt – guaranteed to hit your curves in all the best places. Walters dresses, at $49, were no slouch either – especially a deceptively simple (if well-cut) little back dress with heavily embellished cap sleeves. The bargain of the sale, however, has got to be the Walter by Walter dresses – a steal at just $29. These frocks lean toward the risque: think a black bandage dress or a short burgundy satin pleated number, complete with built in bustier.

Two Sales for One At Chelsea MarketDeals on the Mackage side are not as good. A trio of heavy cable knit coats in red, white, and navy, were gorgeous and obviously of high quality, but at $260 from $395, discounts are not terribly steep. A sparkly navy wool coat was also attractive, but $400 seems a bit much for a sample sale. The clothes are better, especially if you appreciate Mackage’s over the top disco stylings. A jumpsuit with a satin halter and silk pants ($250) looks straight out of Studio 54, as does a truly insane pair of leopard print taffeta formal shorts ($160). For the statement maker, there’s a yellow romper ($160) that strongly resembles a tennis suit, but for the fact that it zippers up both the front and back. This duality isn’t a bad symbol for the sale itself: an unexpected second treat.

WHEN: 5/24 – 5/25; Tue-W (11-7)

75 9th Avenue,
