Tracy Reese Fall Sample Sale Review 11/9
Hello? Anybody home? The mere empty room (clothing wise) of the Tracy Reese Sample Sale on 39th Street is composed mostly of bodies degarbing, trying on one of the few blouses and dresses the designer is offering. Hosted by a few employees of the brand (their headquarters is on the 19th floor of the same building), the room is tricky to get to. After being required to enter through the delivery garage you are forced to cram onto a service elevator operated by cranky man who whisks you up to the 11th floor of nothingness.
Tracy Reese defines her brand as girly style fit for the lifestyles of “real” women. Given the majority of the sizes featured at today’s sale were 0-4, I’d like to know how much (or little) she thinks these “real” women eat.
Two racks are against the wall as you walk in, which feature “one of a kind samples,” as indicated by the red marking on their tags. These range from sizes 0-4 and cost you $50 for Tracy Reese New York pieces, $35 for Plenty by Tracy Reese and Frock! (her less expensive line). Within these racks are only about a dozen items to choose from, none noteworthy unless you’re looking for an oddly oversized and boxy men’s vest – it’s quite clear why these items were “one of a kind.”
Next up are the racks ordered from sizes P-12 (the choices become skimpier as sizes increase). The good news is there is an amazing, Jazz Age style dress available in black and jade. This Bow Frock $165 (pictured) is available in sizes 0, 6, and 12 (both colors) and its silk pleated fabric feels durable within the back bow and as it puffs out to the knee, and would be wonderfully flattering on both women with curves and those without.
Among each rack I spied the same few choices on repeat: The Fringed Poncho $120 in Black Plaid (pictured) and Crimson Plaid, Cropped Striped T by Plenty in Grey/Black, Crimson/Coral, and Yellow/Heather Grey $55, the Zip Front Dress $165 and Tie Neck Blouse featuring Reese’s Arrowhead pattern, and lastly the Cable Rib Cowl Neck $115 in Black and Aubergine.
For those of you lovely shoppers who are pro animal rights but still love a large, furry coat, then the knee length Faux Fur Combo Coat in Ivory $250 (pictured), as well as its partner in crime, the Knee Length Combo Vest, will be right up your ally, all while being cost efficient.
Sadly, if none of the aforementioned choices tickle your fancy then this sale is a big ol’ waste of your time. Fortunately for you, there is an array of other sales taking place today that are surely a better choice.
