Theory Women's Sample Sale Review 5/19
, New York, NY
We’ve long maintained that, when it comes to sample sales, it’s often better to go a few days into the sale than right when it starts – less lines and, sometimes, cheaper prices. When we heard about the massive lines for the first day of the current Theory sale, however, we were filled with self-doubt. Would the racks be totally picked-over before we got to shop?
After visiting halfway through the sale, we can report that we needn’t have worried. Not only is the selection still ample, but the lines have vanished, leaving one of the best organized (and bargain-heaviest) sales in town.
The room opens with a healthy selection of Theyskens for Theory. Some great deals are available here. Don’t miss a futuristic navy dress in a material that looks like leather, but feels a million times lighter. At $228 (originally $415), it’s an excellent bargain, as is a cream linen suit with a thatched neck detail to add some interest ($348 from $960).
The regular Theory selection is also excellent. A loose nude racerback silk dress with oversized pockets ($109 from $275) proves that a garment needn’t be skintight to be super sexy. A draped jersey tank ($79 from $255) is a perfect shade of inky blue and a geometric print pleated miniskirt in shades of brown, navy, and white ($89 from $255) would add some kick to any occasion. This being a Theory sale, there’s plenty of suiting basics, well-priced if dull. If your job allows, save your pennies for the sale’s true showstopper: a mustard yellow maxi-dress ($109 from $375).
