What's worth it and what's not

Instyle Magazine has come out with a whole list of hot fall trends. With a total of fifteen trends, spanning the works of desingers from Balenciaga to Valentino, it’s enough to make your head spin. Not to mention make your wallet cringe and attempt to hide under the sofa. Which of these trends are really worth it? I’ll tell you. Read on.

Statement Coats

Winter coats in bright yellow wool or fuschia patent leather are in right now but should you spend $1000 on one? As if! It won’t be remotely wearable next winter. Get the knockoff version and save the money for something more important. Better yet, skip it. A winter coat should be warm. If not, then forget it.

School Boy Chic

Vests and ties, wool pants, tweeds, oxford pumps = yes. These things are worth the money because you can wear them to work no matter what’s in style. When you’re office you should look professional, and “school-boy chic” lives up to that standard. Plus these pieces are relatively affordable, compared to the other things, at least.

Hour glass silhouettes

Yes–because they always come back in style. They come back in style because, hello–that’s how women are supposed to look! I have to say, though, that the wool cashmere coat by Donna Karan is more worthwhile than the Dolce & Gabana dresses with the wide belts. Those probably won’t come back in style, but the DKNY coat is something that’s come back from another era (my great-aunt had one just like it) so that’s a good sign that it’s worth the money.

Skirted Suits

Yes. You can wear them to work. Always worth while. Next.

Pleated trousers

Yes–if you look good in pleats. Very office friendly, so if you look ok in pleats, it’s worth it.

Full skits

Yes–they flatter every figure whether your skinny or plus size. They’re always fashionable because they look good all the time.

Motorcross Jackets

Yes–leather jackets are always in. The biker look is hot even if you don’t have a bike. And if you do ride a motorcylcle, or your boyfriend does, then you already know how important it is to wear one of these. Plus, leather is good for those fall days where the weather is in between–not cold enough for a winter coat but with a brisk breeze–leather keeps the wind from slicing through.

Luxe trimmings

Please. Three thousand dollars of a purse with pheasant feathers stuck to it? You can save a whole lot of money by shooting your own pheasant–plus you get dinner afterwards. Give me a break.

Origami Inspired, Bows, Capes, Silver–no, no, no, no.

That’s all I have time for, everyone. Got to get going!

Besitos,

Graciela

PS–disagree with me? Have a different perspective to share on any of these trends? Comment away!!
