Thai Twins: Spice & SEA
1I’ve been frequenting both Spice and SEA ad nauseum during this depressing recession. A girls gotta eat! So imagine my surprise when I sat down to remind veteran NYCers that the ‘ol reliable Spice (originally on University, then made babies) still has those scrumptious signature shrimp fitters just to discover that Spice and SEA are a little more than kissing cousins. They’re Thai twinners!
Lunching at Spice Chelsea last week, I had a delicious lunch special that included those yummy little fitters as well as Tom Yum soup and Hawaiian Ginger Pineapple stir fry. It was crowded with attractive men. In Chelsea ladies, you can look, but you cannot touch.
And I couldn’t get my fill of Thai food apparently, because later that week my mouth was burning on fire at SEA from my mango green bean salad. Spicy deliciousness. I followed it with the model popular noodless pad thai. It took all of my effort to pass on a glass of $6 Pino Grigio, but if I were you, I’d have one…or two. Drink away those April showers! And with all of the locations (Chelsea, Uptown, Union Square new Astor Place Spice and SEA on 2nd and in the BK) you really have no excuse not to.

So thrilled you wrote about THAI food Emma!!!
Not only is thai food an unhealthy obsession of mine, I frequent SEA brooklyn (which is much better than the one in EV) way more often than I should. Sadly, I know the whole menu by heart =x (you might as well drop dead if you have not tried the Tip Tum Fritters, soo goood! They are the only reason one should cross the East River into unfamiliar territory)
As much as I love SEA’s cheap and amazingly delicious menu, from Thurs-Sun it is jam packed, they don’t take reservations and you wait atleast 45 minutes to be seated. The location is gorgeous, and supposedly was in one of the Brad Pitt movies. It is better to go there before 7 on ALL days of the week & is def not a place to go for a date as the DJ is so loud you can barely gather your thoughts, and will walk out of there with a sore throat from yelling across a long table at your date)
Spice is great too, the chelsea location is great; you eat at Spice, bargain shop at Loehmann’s, and get desert at Pinkberry.
