This weekend could very well be the most fun May will have to offer – and not in a bad way! However, if you’re a mother you may feel differently depending on what your loving family has in store for you next Sunday, but regardless, between rounds of Kentucky Derby parties on Saturday and a Cinco de Mayo Sunday Funday, you’ll be nursing a serious hangover come Monday. Just don’t choose to cure the headache with an egg McMuffin, fashionistas, because we want to make sure you can fit into the wonderful selection of samples that will be offered at this week’s round of sales. This week, don’t miss Furla, Jimmy Choo, Rebecca Minkoff, Jonathan Adler, Viktor & Rolf, Ali Ro, Judith Leiber and Bettye Muller.

SAMPLE SALE ALERT: ORANGE

Furla Sample Sale

Let the designer shopping begin! Cinco de Mayo not only brings us an onset of tequila, but also a sample sale from Furla at midtown’s Clothingline. At the sale, expect to find everything from Furla’s clutches, totes and handbags to their wallets and small accessories. At past sales, shoppers purchased Furla’s gorgeous Italian handbags for around $395. While you’re browsing for Furla goods, check out the Ali Ro & Donna Morgan discounts that will also be offered during the sale.

Furla Handbags Sample Sale

Rebecca Minkoff Sample Sale

Rebecca kicks the workweek Mink-off with her annual sample sale where 75% will be discounted from ready-to-wear, handbags, footwear and accessories. Hop to 260 Fifth Ave anytime before Saturday to grab yourself a Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag for $250 and sequin tanks for $60. Last year, shoppers spotted dresses for as low as $95, trenches for $200 and Minkoff’s gorgeous morning after bag for $300.

Jimmy Choo Sample Sale

Choo choo! Here comes the Jimmy train. Needless to say, we’ll welcome the two-day Jimmy Choo Sample Sale with open arms and flock to browse deep discounts on shoes, handbags, clutches, and other accessories. Last year, Choo’s gorgeous designer shoes were $225 and, if you’re not picky, damaged shoes were $75. Take an early lunch on Tuesday, and make sure you’re among the first in line for their noon opening.

Jonathan Adler Furniture Warehouse Sale

Spring just screams redecorate, doesn’t it? And where better to start than the Jonathan Adler Furniture & Home Accessories Warehouse Sale? Starting Thursday, the home designer’s modern furnishings will be on display at the Jonathan Adler Warehouse in Bushwick. Expect to find his eye popping Whitaker Ottoman for $565 (down from $1,125) and his gorgeous and original Meurice Chandelier for $375 (from $750).

Weekly Wrap Up

Don’t think your shopping agenda stops here. Take some time to pop in on the sales you’ve missed, namely those that have multiple brands to offer such as the Christofle, Judith Leiber, and Di Modolo Jewelry & Accessories Sample Sale for up to 75% off, the Dsquared2, Maison Martin Margiela, Viktor&Rolf, MM6 & more Sample Sale where StaffUSA will curate a straight off the runway sale, and the always affordable and decent Butter, Bettye Muller & Something Bleu Footwear Sample Sale where sample shoes are $60 with plenty of room to try on however many pairs you please. Lastly, don’t wait until the last minute, get a jump start on mother’s day shopping at the Bitta Design Group Fine Jewelry Sample Sale for up to 70-75% off fine jewelry and watches taking place in the lovely Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Between the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo, this weekend is the year’s best time for the wildest statement hats. So what will it be: a large brimmed white hat with a polka dot bow and a few feathers, or a multi-color sombrero? Both? Ok, I agree.

Surprisingly, there was no line to wait on at this sample sale, but that may not be the case as the sale continues through this Saturday. On the first day clothing was marked down to wholesale prices but discounts are expected to increase daily. The original prices have been removed, so true percentage off original price is unknown. No confusion though in item cost because every single piece has a clearly printed tag with the sale price. Based on sales past, the last day Saturday, November 10th, will bring the largest crowd as well as the lowest prices. I think you should wait.

Be aware that the pieces offered at this sale do not come in complete size runs as they all seem to be real samples. Women’s sizing is as follows: 40-42 and 37-40 . Chances of finding multiples in any size are slim, so if it fits, commit.

Margiela Draped Zip Up Poncho now $621 {size 42}

Dsquared Men's Leather Spiked Jacket $917 {size 44}

I started my shopping in the handbag nook and that was a bad idea, the selection was disappointing, at best. The shoe section saved my spirits thanks to few Viktor and Rolf and Maison Martin Margiela pairs. The shoe selection is likely the best category offered but size runs are also limited, so if the shoe fits, don’t put it down.  Shoe prices range from 200-400 dollars.  The assortment for both men and women offered an array of styles from casual to dress shoes.

StaffUSA Sample Sale

All of the apparel was from the designers’ Fall/Winter 2012 collections, so a fairly recent collection, and weather appropriate, so one can prepare for New York’s influx of unpredictable natural disasters in proper fashion. Our opinion is that in comparison to previous years, the quality of this sample sale selection has declined. Now, the good finds are scarce and are obviously pieces that were not selling well. There are a few gems, but there are only 1-2 sizes per style. As expected, honorable mention goes to Maison Martin Margiela’s collection, which made the visit worthy, especially in regard to outerwear. Price points were still on the higher end, with nothing less than $200 and that’s just a basic t-shirt. Honestly, the sample sale was a bit of a disappointment leaving more variety and deeper discounts to be desired. Oh wait, maybe that’s why foot traffic is so low. Now, if you are a true blue fan of any of the brands, or are curious to see how Martin Margiela looks prior to their upcoming collaboration with H&M, stop by. At the end of the day, there are always lucky finds.

To Our Valued and Beloved Readers,

It is from the depths of our hearts that we offer our condolences to those affected by Hurricane Sandy’s destructive path. Last week, many were left with little to nothing from the vicious super-storm even the most prepared could not battle. Homes were destroyed, lives were lost, and spirits were broken. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you who have been impacted by Sandy’s wrath and we deeply hope your friends and family are safe.

As power is gradually restored, we crawl slowly towards our return to normalcy. The Stylish City considered not releasing a “Don’t Miss This Week” because for many, shopping will be the last thing on anyone’s mind this week. But for some, it may act as a stress reliever — retail therapy if you will – and that is why we have decided to bring you suggestions on where to shop this week in hope that it restores a sense of relief within and helps you take your mind off the horrible week our surrounding area has had, if only for a little bit. For a shopping escape this week, visit sales from Alexander Wang, AEFFE USA Clothing, Pixie Market, Dsquared2, Maison Martin Margiela, Viktor&Rolf, and the invitation only sale from Christian Louboutin, and Manolo Blahnik.

Alexander Wang Sample Sale

The uber popular Alexander Wang Sample Sale is back this week and edgy dressing New Yorkers are bursting at the seams with excitement. Last year, aside from long lines, the Alexander Wang Sample Sale brought us $20 tee shirts and $60 knit sweaters from Wang’s T line. This year, the sale promises up to 70% off ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories at 131 Greene Street beginning Tuesday, November 6th.

AEFFE USA Fall/Winter Sample Sale

Wednesday, November 7th brings the bi-annual clearance sale at AEFFEE USA on 56th Street. Although retail sale more than a sample sale, AEFFE plans to reduce their fall and winter stock by 65% or more. Brands you should plan to come across are Alberta Ferretti, Cacharel, Fuzzi, Jean Paul Gaultuer, Moschino and Pollini.

Dsquared2, Maison Martin Margiela, Viktor&Rolf, and more Sample Sale

The sleek looking Dsquared2 line and pieces from the cutting edge Viktor&Rolf will be on sale starting Thursday, November 8th at Staff USA on West 19th Street. Staff USA also promises stock and samples in addition to Fall and Winter 2012 pieces from Maison Martin Margiela, MM6 and more.

Pixie Market Sample Sale (Rescheduled from Last Week)

If you love downtown fashion, then you are already aware of the Lower East Side’s Pixie Market on Stanton Street. Friday, Pixie Market will host a sample sale with price slashes on all of our favorite edgy designers. According to their sale listing, women’s apparel and accessories are priced between $20-$40! I know where I’ll be Friday: First in line to scope out their Jeffrey Campbell sale selection.

Invitation Only: Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik Sample Sale

As reported last weekChristian Louboutin  was planning to hold a super exclusive, invitation only sample sale  at 306 West 38th Street starting   Monday, November 5th.    The Warwick Hotel was supposed to play home to the super exclusive Manolo Blahnik sample sale starting  this Wednesday, November 7th. MadisonSpy.com reports that both sales have been cancelled or rescheduled. Keep checking up with us,  we will update you Monday with more information about both sales and any other last minute changes to the others.
