When was SFERRA founded and whom was it founded by?

SFERRA was founded in 1891 by entrepreneur Gennaro Sferra, who began in Italy as a purveyor of fine Italian-made lace. Gennaro brought his company to the United States at the turn of the century, traveling up and down the East coast selling his fine Venetian lace cuffs and collars to discerning clientele.

A few days ago on NPR, I was listening to a financial segment that discussed an increase in consumer spending despite trepidation regarding the economy. The host had a few finance/shopping experts on the air who marveled at the sudden spending increase that all these retailers had reported.
