Sure, maybe you don’t live on fashion trends, but you must know it’s Fashion Week. Why else would everyone you pass on the street be looking like they just stepped off the page of a fashion magazine?
So just for a moment, step back and take a deep breath. We will not entertain you with our best glamor fashion glitz reviews and schedules – hey, there are websites that do a fab job of that already. If you doubt us, check out live fashion shows at http://nyfw.com.
We are for democracy and feel there is space for everyone in the fashion world. For example, take a gander at NYPOST. We couldn’t have said it better “And along with the editors, buyers, models, makeup artists and celebrities who descend upon the city comes the usual litany of gripes from jaded fashionistas: There are too many C-listers and Instagram stars, the schedule is too chaotic.
Ralph Lauren is showing in Bedford, NY (gasp), Joseph Altuzarra and Thom Browne have left for Paris (double gasp), Narciso Rodriguez isn’t even bothering with a runway (We can’t even start on this…)”.
While the socialites and fashionistas were scrambling for the latest trends, we stopped by the Paragon Sports Warehouse sale. While it may not be the hippest venue in NYC, check out our post on our experience.
Keep in mind that once the Fashion Week concludes, the fabulous Sample Season starts – so get your chic on and get ready to realize your wildest fashion dreams.
Our pick for this week is Maiyet + Eberjey Sample Sale, because I sleep (and sometimes write these articles) in their comfy pajamas.

What do you think of when you hear the word “Miami”? Endless sunny beaches, a vibrant nightlife, parties galore, and enormous fun, right? We agree, and this August will expand our coverage to what industry-insiders are calling “the next fashion city”.
And we’re not alone in our fascination with Miami. Naeem Khan, Kate Middleton‘s and Michelle Obama‘s fashion designer, has moved his headquarters to the Magic City. But the fun doesn’t stop there…consider:
1) Miami’s Amazing Fashion History
We consider Miami’s burgeoning status as a fashion mecca a reboot. Just twenty years ago Miami led the country in garment manufacturing and specialized in risqué (at the time) swimwear.
2) Fashion Gurus are Moving to Miami
Rene Ruiz, a world-class dress and evening gown designer, caught the Miami fashion fever 30 years ago. The synergy between Khan and Ruiz will be as sizzling hot as the Miami beaches!
3) Fashion Education in Miami
Super-chic swimsuits, lingerie, oh-so-cute dresses, and stunning evening gowns are all being designed and shipped out of Miami. And it’s not an accident – Miami Dade is launching the Miami Fashion Institute, where aspiring designers will learn what it takes to be a cutting-edge designer.
4) The Design District
Miami is also home to Dacra, a creative real estate company that is infusing the design district with a unique blend of design, art, and architecture. And it’s working – Dior, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Cartier and Tom Ford have claimed their spot in the Design District.

It’s a fact: there is a lot of ex-New Yorkers living in Los Angeles. Sure, you can say what you want about the laid-back lifestyle and lack of seasons, but if you experience LA, you might stop scoffing their lack of culture. There are a lot of trendy restaurants and fashion events, and like it or not, the LA fashion district is giving NYC some competition.
Still, here at The Stylish City, we are not leaving New York City soon. We have decided, though, to introduce our readers to the other upcoming fashion capital of the world, sunny Los Angeles.
If you visit LA, you will see a vibrant fashion culture, complete with fashion shows, sample sales, warehouse sales, and distinct LA-style fashion trends. The LA sample sales are different, too – Fridays are always your best chance at scoring an amazing sample sale.
The last Friday of each month, some of the world’s most high-end designer showrooms open to the public and offers contemporary fashions typically seen only on film or the pages of fashion magazines. Even better – they slash the prices so almost anyone can become a trendy fashionista! Please note not all showrooms in the district take part in this monthly event. Most of the showrooms that participate accept cash only.
