As you might know, life got a little complicated here at the site. We had to change our name, which in turn lost us our traffic and our 1,500 facebook friends. We’ve had to hire people to help us save the site itself, send emails to remind people we exist, create new marketing materials… the list goes on.

20% off on Tibor Kalman's Sky Umbrella at MoMA Design StoreWe’ve all heard the expression, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” Good expression, but it sometimes doesn’t help me go from being angry, scared, and powerless to finding the strength to turn things around and feel the joy again in what I do. I had been struggling with finding that magical turning point when my eyes happened to have glanced at the umbrella I received from the Museum of Modern Art as part of its 20th anniversary celebration (Thank you MOMA!). That’s it! No matter how hard it rains outside, I have to create my own blue sky. You should do the same; place yourself beneath blue sky even in the wettest of weather. Create your own little happy universe, and eventually the rain will stop

If you’re looking for somewhere to take a friend, or you just have nothing planned this weekend, you might want to take some ideas from my itinerary.

Breakfast at Cafe Sabarsky and a visit to the Neue Galerie

My upcoming Upper East Side Magical WeekendGrab an authentic Austrian breakfast at Cafe Sabarsky (one of the best and most expensive coffees in town), and then check out the Neue Galerie.  A great resource for both New York and world culture, the Neue Galerie is showing now selections from the Ronald S. Lauder(yes, that Lauder!) Collection. Pieces date from the Third Century B.C. all the way up to 20th Century German, Austrian and French works.

Dinner at Hospoda

Right now, the hottest, newest spot on the Upper East Side seems to be Hospoda, a modern Czech restaurant that’s getting one great review after another. The menu consists of meals that are created from locally bought, seasonal ingredients, and the food is paired with custom brewed beer for the finest in dining experiences for the bold and the curious(tongue seems to be the most popular thing on the menu).

Check out “Wanderlust”

Hollywood may have built the industry, but New York provides the inspiration, which explains why there are so many movies about New York and New Yorkers. The recently released film “Wanderlust” starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston (and Justin Theroux,) follows a couple as they leave the city for rural Georgia. Yes, I admit, I am going to see this movie mainly because I am curious to see Jennifer Aniston’s boyfriend.

My upcoming Upper East Side Magical WeekendA walk in Central Park

No need for introductions, Central Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the world, and there’s no better way to appreciate the changing weather and get some fresh air between a movie and dinner than to explore it at your leisure.

Dinner at  Sfoglia

If you’re in the mood for Italian,  Sfoglia is traditional to the point of being somewhat rustic, lending a really authentic atmosphere to the restaurant. This is as close as you’re going to get on the Upper East Side to sitting at an Italian grandmother’s table for dinner . The rickety wooden tables and bowls of fruit in place of flowers create a homey feeling. All the food is, of course,  authentic and filling, but do get the pasta, you’ll thank me.

You can check out pics I will take during the weekend, stalk me on foursquare, or just borrow a few ideas from this list, but don’t complain that you have nothing to do this weekend.

By this point in the 21st century, it’s safe to assume that most people are already aboard the social media bandwagon. Still, many men and women find themselves unskilled when it comes to dating in this fast paced world of interactive media. From Facebook friendships to Foursquare check-ins to Twitter play-by-plays, it’s time to wise up to what’s acceptable — and what’s not. A recent post by Mashable detailed 10 essential tips for dating in the social media age. We’ve highlighted five of them below.Dating Protocol in a Social Media World

1. Don’t “Like” or Comment on Everything

Comment on discussions, statuses or links that intrigue you, but avoid commenting or “liking” for the sake of making your presence known. In other words, only contribute if you have something valuable to offer.

2. Facebook Stalking

Just don’t do it. If it’s an ex, you’ll just get sad. If it’s a current interest, you’ll find it’s much nicer to ask about his day instead of reading about it.

3. Friending His Pals

This is also a social media faux pas, as is adding his family.

4. Twittering Etiquette

Do not, I repeat, do not, Twitter about your date while you’re on a date with him. If you must, Twitter about things after you’ve parted. And leave out the steamy details.

5. Breaking Up

It’s no secret that our lives are much more public today than they were in the past. If you’ve called it quits with your ex-beau, try to be the first to change the relationship status and then make it private or delete the activity. If you see a friend’s recently split, be kind and refrain from commenting on the activity.
