This weekend, take some time out of your Saturday in order to do a bit of spring cleaning. If you’re successfully able to part ways with old designs and ill-fitting jeans, then you’ll realize that there’s nothing quite like a slight looking closet, ready for some cheery additions. In order to pack those racks right back up to capacity, after Easter this Sunday, hop on over to some sales from Rent the Runway, Bettye Muller and Linda Richards, and The Wrights Collection as we, quite literally, gear up to break out the warm weather clothing and prepare for weekend trips and beach vacations.
Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival
Easter and New York City meet for a perfect blend of colorful quirk thanks to the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival on Sunday. From 10AM until 4PM New Yorkers get a dose of originality as mad hatters sport their favorite bonnets and march the parade route along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Street. To make it even better, many paraders allow their costumed pets to tag along with them.
Rent the Runway Sample Sale
Come Monday you can Rent the Runway during their sample sale at 260 Fifth Avenue. Rent the Runway, the popular online destination for those seeking a one-night-only designer dress, is now offering up their merchandise for keeps during their week-long sale. Last year, by day two of the sale pickings were slim. As we reported, considering these dresses have been worn multiple times, we were disappointed to find so many mascara stains, deodorant marks, and pulls on the designer goods.
Bettye Muller and Linda Richards Sample Sale
Although usually paired with brands Butter and Something Bleu, this time around Bettye Muller teams up with Linda Richards for a Sample Sale on their shoes and accessories. Prices are always remarkably low at these sales at 38th street, and shoes will by marked for $50 and under this time around. Sandals, skimmers, and flats will be on hand for spring and summer stock up!
The Wrights Collection Sample Sale
Load up on basics, brights, and prints at The Wrights Sample Sale, taking place in the brand’s midtown showroom come Wednesday. Both The Wrights’ Resort and Spring Collections will be on sale for up to 75% off retail prices. From leather jackets to jersey knits, although not a widely known brand, this sale certainly looks promising. Last year, during The Wrights Collection Sample Sale, cute cropped jackets were spotted for $260, while jersey knits were $60 and leather jackets were $300. Also, be sure to not pass up a peak at their true samples on hand.
Etc., Etc.
Beginning Wednesday, Shoshanna is no longer just your favorite Girls character. At the Shoshanna Sample Sale, 75% off is taken of the retail price of the brand’s dresses, swimwear and separates. Also, if you’re in the market for a jewelry pick-me-up, don’t miss out on the Wanderluster Sample Sale where funky and fun jewelry will be sold for up to 60% off retail prices.
Happy Easter!

The shoes at the Butter, Bettye Muller & Something Bleu Stock and Sample Sale went as quickly as they came during a day full of wind and rain. The 7th Avenue showroom seemingly held only crumbs of what remains of older stock items and samples. The room’s floor was decorated with tiny stacks of various boxes holding heels by Butter, Betty Muller and Something Bleu, and the back of the room displayed samples for a fraction of the would be retail price. One problem though, all samples were a Size 7, so if your little tootsies can’t squeeze into this size, you’re better off sticking with the slim pickings toward the front of the room and trying your luck with older stock items that will run you $100 a pair.
I’ll begin with lucky number seven (the winner of the day!) and work my way from there. The sample shoes (reminder again, these will all be in size 7 only) were in fair shape with minor scuffmarks and signs of wear on a few pairs but nevertheless, every heel was unique in their own respect. The Butter Red Shag ($60, pictured) caught my attention, as did the Butter Beige Patent Geo Wedges ($60, pictured), the cartoonish looking Butter Steads ($60, pictured) and Butter Sambuca with Green Bows ($60, pictured). If you’re planning a wedding this summer and are currently on the prowl for affordable and funky shoes (and wear a size 7), you may be in luck. A whole shelf was dedicated to Something Bleu’s original and great wedding shoes ($60, half are pictured). There were not many samples by Bettye Muller, but I did like the sleek look of her Lori Heels in Golden Yellow ($60).
Are you non-size 7’s out there still with me? Good, because there were a few sizes left of the Betty Muller Beige Panamas ($100), Butter Ship in Gold ($100) and Something Bleu’s eye catching Carnation and Black Feather Heels ($100, pictured). There were many size 38, 39 and 40’s in the Bettye Muller section, namely in the styles Pitones in Gold ($100), Bronze Gruesas ($100), Charco Natelis ($100), and her multicolored Troupes ($100). The only size 41’s I saw in the sale were also by Betty Muller and were her Brown Leather Fieos Wedges ($100) and Katy Bis Bronze Wedges ($100).
So there you have it, a day of bliss for females who wear sample size 7 and a day of disappointment for everyone else. There are a few funky finds that may win you over, but going to the sale may be a risk, especially given how quickly the sale’s merchandise depleted.
