Summer Clearance Sales vs. Sample Sales: Why wait?

We here at The Vogue City are partial to good sample sales but greet exceptions with open arms. I’m sure you thrifty shoppers out there are well aware of the “Everything Must Go!” sales happening in nearly every shopping outlet around. We’re moments away from 4th of July weekend, which, for retailers, translates to: clear out the summer threads to make room for fall clothing. I know, I know that “f” word is cringe worthy but it’s a pro in this case.

Two noteworthy stores in the downtown area match the prices you will see at their brand’s sample sales come August, except you get to enjoy the clothing now rather than have it sit in your closet for eight months depressed and begging to be worn.  Oak in the East Village (28 Bond St) is holding their  (this week is 40% off all sale items, next week is 50%). If you live for downtown chic clothing with a vintage feel this is your store. Oak’s two levels hold a plethora of sale items to choose from. If you love Alexander Wang as much as I do – go stock up! Incredible prices for his to-die-for soft jersey knit dresses and tees, blazers and blouses. Acne wonder tees are now $60 and Neuw high-waisted shorts and jeans are all 40% off – they fit like a dream! Other great finds include a baggy, draping pocket A.Ok tank for $21 and an Ina soft black angular skirt for $60. Don’t forget to check out Oak’s own brand, they have some great basics to choose from. Also on sale are their fantastic leather bags and sky high leather wedges to match your high quality new clothes. The second noteworthy stop in your shopping venture is A.P.C.’s Summer Sale in SoHo (131 Mercer St.) for some Euro-hipster finds. The wide selection of sale items will satisfy all you edgy prepsters out there. The brightly colored safari-style clothing is craftily tailored for a unique yet sophisticated look. 30% (red tags) and 50% (no tag) for bright red cardigans ($132), vibrant blue boat pullovers ($126), olive and khaki colored side zip mini shorts ($70) and versatile shirt dresses is various shapes and sizes ($140). So there you have it folks, I know you love those sample sales just as much as we do but as you shop this week don’t pass up these terrific sales! Granted, you may see a more than 40% off sign at the end of season sample sales but if the shoe (or dress or shorts) fits….buy it now and enjoy it all summer long!
