Spring Dresses to Crave

floral-babydoll-dress.jpgMore than any other season, there’s something about the spring season that inspires me to wear dresses during the day. Not just any dresses, though. I crave dresses appropriate for bright days of going to the park on my lunch break. We’re talking about dresses that remind me of beautifully cliche fluffy clouds, fragrant blooming tulips, and the fact that I have frickin’ wonderful legs that I want to show off with secret glee. (There’s nothing wrong with that!)

banana-republic-silk.jpgYou can’t deny the innocence and flirty romance of a white spring dress. I like the Necessary Objects Embroidered Floral Babydoll Dress ($78.00) at Nordstrom.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s nothing wrong with a splash of color. Especially a bright berry. Enter: the Banana Republic Solid Silk Dress ($150.00).

While all of the writers on this site love black,ali-ro-ruffled.jpg spring can make even the most cynical New Yorker want to forgo her little black dress for something else. For an alternative, why not a dress in a rich navy blue? If you have blue eyes, this will make them pop. If you don’t have blue eyes, you can fake it with some blue eye shadow. For as long as I can remember, a cardinal rule has been to never match your eye shadow to your clothing. But I’ve been seeing it on A-list stars and it doesn’t look as bad as I’d feared.

The navy blue dress I’m drawn to right now is the youthful-but-conservative Ali Ro Ruffled Georgette Dress ($275.00)from Neiman Marcus. The model in the picture looks a little like actress, Rose Byrne, don’t you think? Especially with the haircut she had in Wicker Park. (Not only is it an amazing movie, but the soundtrack is worth putting on repeat.)

Here’s to living in sublime style,

Jessica Rae
