So You're Over 40, So What? Your Hair Can Still be Gorgeous

Today I’m focusing on women over 40 hair styles. A fact that I know I’ll never want to acknowledge (and who says denial and repression are so bad?) is that at 40 and beyond hair will naturally become thinner. (If only our thighs did that too.) Instead of seeing it as a problem to sulk about (and I can sulk like an expert, just give me an episode of House M.D., a truckload of Diet Coke, and some licorice) take a page from an optimist and say that it’s just a challenge to treat, not a problem to fix.

That does sound pretty optimistic, right? (New territory for me.) Surprisingly though, it’s also true. Things are looking better already. forticeastimulating.jpgThis optimism stuff might not be so bad…
So, what can you do for your hair so that your hair works for you? Start at the obvious place – your shampoo. I don’t know if I can pronounce it properly, but I think the Rene Furterer Forticea Stimulating Shampoo from Sephora sounds promising ($23.00). Stimulate yourjonathanproduct.jpg hair (technically your scalp – which in turn makes your hair grow thicker)! It’s not as racy as it sounds. Which is maybe a pity, eh?

; ) Oh, shush!

I found a product that sound almost too good to be true. It’s Jonathan Product: Create Root Volume Brushable Lifting Spray™ ($28.00)- and I bet you can’t say that three times fast…but why would you? I digress! This ambitious product might very well be what Amy Winehouse uses for her tremendously tall beehive. You probably aren’t trying to create a beehive like her (and if you are – why?), but women over 40 style hair with experienced hands, so it makes sense to me that they should have products they can count on, yes?

If you fear using a shine serum on your hair because you think it will weigh your hair down – you’re probably right. At least, in most cases. But it luckily isn’t the case with Molton Brown Smoothing Lila Leaf Hair Gloss from Saks Fifth Avenue ($28.00).
Are you feeling as tired as your hair looks? If so, the best advice I have is to go for the plunge and get one mega kit that will help you with every aspect of your fine hair. I’m talking about the Ojon 5-piece Hair Fortify Ritual Kit from Neiman Marcus ($50.00). Just remember, if you’re a woman over 40, hair doesn’t have to be given up on. Forty is the new thirty, anyway.

I feel compelled to go wash my hair now. See, it’s not something I say just to get out of boring diner parties. Not that I, uh…do that. 😉
Cheers!
