1Rachel Roy is the Manhattan based socialite designer and wife of Damon Dash, the label executive and former CEO of Roc-A-Fella Records. The designer’s website http://www.rachelroy.com has a very tempting invitation to a sample sale at 25W 39th Street October 31st-November 2nd 12PM-7PM.
This is what Style.com had to say about her Spring 2008 collection:” As a designer—and as a dresser—Rachel Roy likes a flourish: puff sleeves, ruffled necklines, embroideries. This season, with weekend trips with her daughters to the MoMA for inspiration, there wasn’t a blank canvas in her collection. A boatneck A-line dress and boxy, zip-front coat came in a silk photo-printed with delicate pastel watercolors. The front of a narrow sheath was a patchworked collage of multicolored netting. And one softly shirred, sexy chiffon number in shades of chartreuse, steely gray, and black evoked a Rothko painting”

I’ve just come back from the sample sale- they are a couple of blocks from my office so it was no big deal getting there. I think I’ve seen Rachel Roy in person, she must be the gorgeous woman standing in the middle of the showroom, and yes they are right: she is the best advertisement for the line. The sale has limited number of items, but it’s worth going there. Prices range from $75 sweaters (I’ve got one) to $400 for a very lady like gray leather jacket with ruffles that I wish I had money to buy. I’ve noticed some shirts that feature the same lady like style that people associate with Rachel and some dresses that I would have considered if they were my size. Don’t ask! I have no idea what they retail for but they looked like a good bargain to me.
