Phillip Lim Gives us Another Reason to Shop [ Unexpected Colored Coats ]

3 September 2008

Marie Claire magazine assures me that jewel tones are in vogue for fall 2008. (Not that I think I need reassurance for my carefully honed skills when it comes to knowing what is worth buying. It just never hurts to have someone else backing you up.) Still, I’m going to be painstakingly particular about which bright pieces I choose for fall because fall, for me, will always be about dark and haunting colors.

To be very brave about this trend? Make the jewel-hued piece your coat. Yup. I promise it’s not as scary as it might very well sound to some of us. We may not be color-phobic, but we usually pick black coats, don’t we? It matches everything – that’s our excuse for that. But let’s go see what else we might like.

Your best selections are:

PURPLE COAT: Street Poet Trench ($248.00) from Anthropologie – also in pink
BLUE COAT: Laundry Peacoat with Velvet Buttons ($420.00) from Macy’s – also in red. Ignore the dalmation-eque purse (ew). The coat can look very smart and classic with the shape it has. This is the safest alternative for someone who’d like to try this trend.
TEAL/EMERALD COAT: 3.1 Phillip Lim Slim Coat with Yoke ($650.00) at Barneys New York
