Art history inspired pieces ruled the recent Spring 08 runways, from the surrealist-inspired Marc Jacobs backwards heels, to the Picasso-esque Miu Miu dresses featuring images of the Italian Commedia Dell’Arte Harlequin clown. Yet there’s one art-inspired trend for Spring that is incredibly wearable and available to people with all kinds of budgets: Painterly Florals. At Stella McCartney, the flowers were slightly smudged and completely original.

McCartney’s Floral Slip Dress, $1,095 is pricey, but absolutely gorgeous, and is a timeless piece you’ll wear for years.

but Kate Moss for Topshop’s Floral Smock is on sale for $209.

Vera Wang Lavender Label’s Silk Shift Dress, $480, is also a beautiful piece, though it’s a bit more pricey.
These gorgeous dresses are a great alternative to your average little flowered dress for Spring.
