Out to Lunch: Bring your Dog!

I constantly see people toting their dogs places I’m not really sure they’re supposed to be – like into grocery stores, bars, delis – this seems to be especially easy if your precious is only pint-sized. Far be it from me to judge – I love seeing dogs everywhere, and if I thought I could sneak little Bailey into the fine establishments I frequent, I totally would. But she’s old and crotchety, and – while totally adorable – not very inconspicuous.

That’s why I love it when I can find places that *encourage* me to let the Bail-ster tag along. One of these areas is the historic South Street Seaport. The actual sea port itself is a great place to bring your pooch, especially if you want to enjoy a nice day outside, but need a change of scenery from your normal parks and walks. And if you happen to find a restaurant that won’t let your pup sit with you, you can always get something to go, and sit along the port.

Il Porto is a great place to grab some seafood – which you’ll no doubt be craving, since you are, after all, at the port. Aside from great grub, there are many tables outside where you and your companion can sit together.

J.P. Mustard is a yummy deli that offers sandwiches to go, or will bring you and your pet full table service if you sit at one of the many tables outside this restaurant.

Same goes for establishments like Red – a deliciouso Tex-Mex place – and the Seaport Cafe – which offers up quintessential burgers and salads.

No matter which restaurant you head to, you’ll be sure to find a spot at the Seaport for you and your faithful friend!

Manner’s-wise, what do you suppose the protocol on feeding your dog a morsel from your plate is? (Not literally FROM your plate.) My dog, Bayley (coincidence, huh?!) looks at me with such puppy eyes that it’s hard to resist giving her a tiny nibble.

I say – if you’re at a place where you can bring your dog, it’s perfectly acceptable to sneak them a table scrap or two. i mean, once you see those eyes, do you REALLY have a choice??!!
