March 14, 2013. What You Need to Know in 60 Seconds: Elizabeth and James, and how to accessorize the accessories

This is what I discovered today in a conversation with Melissa, my stepdaughter: you can start building a look with just an accessory. She wanted yellow pumps, but I told her that she had nothing to wear them with. Her response? “I’ll start with the shoes.”

Who knew? I guess you can accessorize the accessories. Let’s see how that works today.

Starting at 11AM:

Better Than Basic: Metallic-Infused Accessories on RueLaLa.com

Why?

I have to tell you, I find it surprisingly easy to match a silver bag that I bought only because it was on sale. I bought the bag thinking, “Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll find something to wear it with.” I ended up getting more miles out of it compared to any of the standard colored bags I have. I definitely recommend this sale.

Amrita Singh: Redeem Online on RueLaLa.com

Why?

First off, redeem online means you have access to a much larger inventory and style options compared to a regular sale. Secondly, you are not rushed to make the purchase right away out of fear that you’ll miss the opportunity to snag the item. Additionally, there is no better way to create a more authentic “global look” than with accessories from this very talented New York designer with Indian roots.

Elizabeth and James Eyewear at Gilt.com

Why?

I really like what the Olsen twin’s are doing there. I admit that I am, in general, somewhat critical of every single celebrity who comes up with a label. Yes, it’s true that John Malkovich had a capsule collection today on TheOutnet.com. I am still waiting for Meryl Streep to come up with something, too, but everyone else has done it one way or another. I have to say that the Olsen sisters are actually doing a good job — and their glasses are really cool.
