Loro Piana Sample Sale Review 4/12
Maybe we just don’t get ultra high-end sample sale space Soiffer Haskin, but it seems to us that at a sample sale, it shouldn’t be possible to pay $1350 for a baby-size shearling coat. And yet! That’s just one of the dubious bargains available at the Loro Piana sale.
Make no mistake: everything here is lovely. We have rarely touched anything softer than a baby cashmere thin cable-knit sweater, but that doesn’t mean we want to pay $595 for the privilege, even if it is marked down from $1195. A silk/cashmere blend scarf is lighter than air and festively printed, but really? $1085? More than a thousand dollars? On sale? No, thank you.
Matters don’t get better in clothing. A striped dress in oranges and greens is perfect for fall and sophisticated in satin, but at $2265 (from $3775), it’s not exactly a bargain. Even the most basic cashmere sweaters, indistinguishable from what you’d find at Banana Republic, are priced in the $400s. That’s still better, however, than the striped polo shirts ($390 from $650), which are indistinguishable from what you’d find at American Eagle.
The best deals might be in the accessories section: an amazing roomy aubergine tote is $2205 (from $3150), which isn’t terrible. A pair of would make a luxurious winter gift and at $285, won’t totally break the bank. Overall, though, no need to hit this one unless you’re packing some serious cash.
