Lookin' hot - without burning a hole in your wallet.
, New York, NY
Red: the color of passion; the temperature of heat; and, if we’re lucky, the markdown sticker on a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress at our favorite boutique. Prince sang about a “little red Corvette,” and Warrant made men melt with the venerable “Cherry Pie” video. Coral or scarlet, garnet or ruby, we hold this sexy huge near and dear to our American hearts.
If an eponymous Valentino dress isn’t in your budget this Valentine’s Day, fret not – we at The Vogue City have you covered, with bargain busters that are sure to turn heads faster than the aforementioned sports car through a red light.
The key to wearing red – on Valentine’s Day or any other day, for that matter – is to pick a piece and wear it with confidence. Head-to-toe red very rarely works on anyone, except Santa Claus (and even he could use a tip or two about that unsightly waistline of his). For example, I love accessorizing a monochromatic outfit with a splash of bold color. Pair a little black dress, tights and knee high black boots with the Vitello Diano hobo from Prada:
Priced at slightly over $1,200, you’ll give new meaning to the phrase ‘table for one,’ since the next time you’ll be able to afford dinner out will be sometime in 2025.
This red tank from American Apparel caught my eye, and not just because their catalog tends to be slightly pornographic:
At $22, this midweight cotton tank goes from jeans to glam with the simple addition of some gold hoops and a bit of Champagne-induced swagger in your walk. I’ve found that most clothing from American Apparel (read: ill-fitting terry track shorts and unisex dresses) makes me look like a pork sausage with a side of mashed potatoes, but their tanks are pretty much universally flattering on any body type. Let us not forget, fearless fashionistas of the East Coast, that winter is still upon us, likely ending sometime in June. Bundle up in style with this cashmere cap from J. Crew, on clearance for just over $39:
Above all, the best accessories a girl can have with her on Valentine’s Day are her girlfriends – and a few bottles of red wine.
