As we approach the last day of 2009, we feel nostalgic, part excited, part disappointed, and get on with whatever it is we are leaving behind. Letting go of one weird year allows us to enter another on a positive note. It’s called setting the the tone. From head, to toe, this week we’re bringing you the best ways to starting 2010 shining brightly for all to see. First stop, the beye glittereauty counter. Companies like M.A.C., Hard Candy and Inglot specialize in show-style glitter make up, but if you are cutting costs, I picked up a Wet ‘N Wild bright green tube at C.V.S. for under five bucks.

If you’re a glitter-phobe, we get it. The powdery applique can be challenging to apply. We spoke with a costume make-up expert at MAC who informed us that the glitter is not as hard as it seems. In order, how to apply: 1) Foundation your lid. Either use your regular foundation/concealer and/or a cream shadow base. 2) Apply your shadow like normal. Remember you will be adding glitter. I prefer a solid, bright color for the shadow and to line my lids with a neutral glittery shadow. Other people go for a more neutral shadow selection and make mac glittertheir eyes pop with the glitter. Your choice. 3) Line eyes with a duo adhesive. This can be the same adhesive you use to apply eyelashes, but make sure you choose clear rather than black. Apply adhesive, one eye at a time, to any spot you want the glitter. 4) Apply glitter with a q-tip or carefully onto adhesive. 5) Repeat glitter on second eye.

A few tips, I put the rest of my make up on after because my hands are shaky and the glitter gets a bit messy. I use my powder and bronzer time to brush off excess glitter. The application process may seem like a bit of a pain, but it actually only tacks and extra five maybe ten minutes onto your regular make up time. The end result sets the tone to send you into the new year shining.
