Jodi Arnold Sample Sale Review 1/13
, New York, NY
Rumors are swirling that the current Jodi Arnold sale could be the brand’s last. Exhibit A: Arnold’s Atlantic Avenue shop recently (and suddenly) shuttered. Exhibit B: everything in the Village location is currently on sale. Everything. Whether or not the rumors are true, the deals are great and, if it really is the end of days for the brand, all the more reason to rush down and check it out.
Arnold’s designs are all about classics, but with an eye-catching twist. They’re statement pieces, but instead of yelling, they murmur, inviting the viewer to lean in closer. The details are stunning and the construction is flawless. A soft heavy cotton charcoal dress ($125) is cut conservatively, but close to the body, and its cap sleeves boast sequins, covered in netting. The sleeve interest is mimicked in another dress, a silk beauty with short sleeves that look as though they were crocheted from metallic threads ($165). Sure, you couldn’t wear a bra with it, but it’s stunning nonetheless. A supremely soft long-sleeved charcoal tee comes with a stunning beaded bib necklace ($99) and would look excellent with a pair of butter-soft leather pants, a steal at $99. Perhaps the most stunning piece, however, is a cushy charcoal cashmere sweater with a snake-like pattern of sequins darting out from the neck.
A note to bright color enthusiasts: Arnold works with a very muted palate: we only saw a few items that weren’t charcoal, black, navy, or ecru. Perhaps this explains the dissolution of her Brooklyn store: the full-time mommies and editors of Boerum Hill are more Orla Kiely than black leather pants. If Arnold’s label continues on, we’d urge them to look to Williamsburg, where many of these items would be right at home.
