IT Shifts the Sample Sale Status Quo
CP Fashion Company wants to change the way you think about designer sales. CP Vice President Helen Zhikhareva is leading a charge to revolutionize the industry. “I’m a big shopper,” laughs Zhikhareva, “and I didn’t like what I saw at sample sales. No one treats it like a real store. I’ve managed retail for ten years and I know the importance of mechandising.”
To that end, CP’s latest sale, the IT USA March Private Sale, featuring merchandise from Just Cavalli, CNC Costume National, Gianfranco Ferre, and G. Ferre is organized “like a boutique,” according to Zhikhareva. “Even with these discounts, I want shoppers to feel like they’re at Saks.” At the IT sale, each brand is organized into stories, each featuring tops, bottoms, and jackets grouped together to form coherent looks. “Who’s going to buy a pair of black jeans from a rack of black jeans?” ask Zhikareva. “But pair it with a crisp white shirt and a jacket with an interesting detail, and suddenly the jeans stand out.” Even the bags here are merchadised, displayed cleanly in groups – a far cry from the cardboard boxes filled with miscellaneous purses common at most sample sales.
In fact, don’t call the IT sale a sample sale at all – Zhikareva prefers the term “private sale.” Invitations go out to an exclusive mailing list and readers of select websites, like The Vogue City. Sample sale or not, the prices here are very competitive with the best sales. A perfectly polished oversized Just Cavalli bag is $397.50, down from $1,325. Looking for a dress for a girls’ night out or a super-hot date? Look no further than an ultra-sexy blush printed satin bustier Just Cavalli number – a hot deal at just $148.50 from $495. There’s a nice selection of shoes (along with belts, wallets, jewelry, scarves, perfume, keychains, and gloves!): the best deal is probably a pair of sky high red pumps with brown metallic straps, a mere $232.50 from $774.
