Is Your Hair Stuck in 2004?

If there’s something I can’t stand right now when it comes to women’s hair – it’s that so many of us are still using straightening irons. That trend lasted for years, but here’s a quick newsflash – it’s oooooover (over)! It’s beyond over. I can’t stand seeing it, likekimvo2.jpg this uniform of girls who can’t leave the house until their hair is pin-straight. What’s hot right now is hair with VOLUME! Not a perm by any means (cause – ew, it’s not the 80’s), but sexy, romantic, and ultra-beautiful hair with oomph.

Put down your outdated hair straightener, I promise you’ll be okay.

Big bouncy hair will look fabulous with any of my recent sunglass picks: here & here. And you need a new pair of sunglasses (besides, don’t you want some?) If you don’t wanna listen to me listen to Arianna.
I’m excited about the Kim Vo Life Volumizing Conditioner ($24.00) from Barney’s. Conditioners are tricky because often they’ll weigh your hair down without your knowledge – so rude, I know. This particular conditioner is made to do the opposite. It has something called kimarine, and while I don’t know much about what that is other than ‘a marine botanical’, it sounds worth trying. Mermaid’s have great hair.

Style Tip: This sort of conditioner would be especially great for women over 40 hair that tends to thin with age.

ojonhair.jpgLet’s see, what else is on my radar…. Oooh – Ojon Hydrating Thickening Spray ($30.00) at Neiman Marcus. Normally I wouldn’t think that a product could hydrate and thicken because to hydrate you’re putting moisture in a hair follicle which will weigh it down. But this uses oils “suspended in microspheres“. Luckily, we don’t need to know how it works to have it work in our hair. And I am eternally grateful for that because science and I are like very unmixy subjects.

I know some of you had straighteners that dried your hair (probably out) as you straightened it – and while I seriously doubt that it worked, if anyone is annoyed they’ll have to take more time on their hair, I have something I’m excited about that I want to share.

As often as I can, I don’t blow dry my hair, I let my hair air dry so there’s less damage. Also, I just hate standing and blow drying my hair because my hair is thick, and I havesephoratowel.jpg long hair (oh, the curses!) Of course, there’s not always time to air dry hair, and I don’t want to go out with a wet head since that always makes me feel stupid.

I think the Sephora Microfiber Hair Towel might be just what I need ($20.00). Wrap it around your hair and it’ll dry faster than with a normal towel? Sounds pretty fabulous. Mirela, Arianna, Brenae, Alexis – what do you think? Did I discover something awesome with this towel or will this idea flop faster than Paris Hilton’s singing career?

Here’s to living in sublime style,

Jessica Rae
