How do you feel about masstige?

This just in from About.com ” Fashionistas flaunting bargains is nothing new. What is new is the caliber of icons and designers who are offering cheap wares. The trend even has its own moniker: masstige (a blend of mass and prestige).
Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Bitten” line for Steve & Barry’s touts nothing over $20, Payless features Lela Rose shoes and Very Vera from Vera Wang debuts at Kohls this season.
Wear It: No need to get all breathless about big names for low prices and buy everything you find. The same principle applies whether you spend $15 or $1500 on a sweater: only buy it if it a) fits and b) looks great.”

I’ll admit, I was quite moved by SJP’s touching ‘manifesto’ and yes, I have my eye on an adorable, peter pan collared Erin Fetherston for Target coat at Target.com. However, I couldn’t agree more that sometimes we get overexcited by the low prices these ‘designer’ duds are offered at, and forget that true value does not apply to pieces that won’t live past a few washes or have an odd fit. If you love it, need it, can’t live without it, than buy it. If you’re simply awestruck that a cute corduroy dress costs less than your latte, reconsider.
