How an Unathletic Fashionista Learned to Succeed at Dodge Ball
, New York, NY
It used to be that if a woman wanted a pair of comfortable shoes or sandals that they were regulated to something ugly and plain. I used to subscribe to the belief that if I wanted to dress stylish and cute, I couldn’t have anything athletic or comfortable. But now I’m so very aware that isn’t the case. But I’ve seemed to slip into a routine where my sneakers are for going to the gym and otherwise I just wear sandals. I’m ready to acknowledge the error of my ways!
Lola will probably be the one to mock me ever-so-lovingly when I show up in my new kicks. I don’t have a very sporty past, or present. I mean, okay, I played Volleyball once. But, er, I mean literally once. That ball is so HARD (not plush or soft at all, like I was lead to believe) that after I played about five minutes in gym class I learned to become good at another sport – dodge ball. Hehe. Get it? Yea, I basically spent my time dodging the ball and giving semi-apologetic looks to my teammates. But I never felt too guilty, because they could do it better than me. So really, I was helping them win by not messing up and interfering!
So, when Lola asks me why I need shoes/sneakers like this, I am prepared. It’s because my feet need to rest when not wearing the heels I love, and I need to maneuver some places quickly – like the sales at Macy’s!
It’s time for some casual sneakers that are meant for running around, but not just on a volleyball court.
