WHAT: French Sole Sample Sale

WHY: French Sole, originator of the ballerina flat, first opened its tiny shoe shop in 1989 on the Upper East Side. For 20 years, it’s continued to stock more than 5,000 pairs of shoes, library-style, with sales staff climbing up and down ladders to retrieve footwear. Now you can snag some of its fashionable flats at major discounts. Mesh-and-patent-leather slingbacks are slashed from $220 to $109, fabric ballerina styles with leather piping are cut from $180 to $89, and embroidered floral designs are $109 (were $220).

WHEN: Through 9/10, (10–7)

WHERE: 976 Lexington Ave., at 71st St.
