Faceoff: Treo vs. Blackberry
, New York, NY

Graciela and Kyoko have both been hounding me about whether to buy a Blackberry or a Palm. I guess there is no one answer for all of you, but here’s my humble treatise on Smartphones: Personally, I don’t get why anyone would want to have Excel Mobile or PowerPoint Mobile–as far as I’m concerned its just another way for work to eat into your free time. But I guess if you’re Kyoko, stuck in an airport due to a weather delay, it’s nice not to get behind on your briefs. The Palm Treo 700 comes with mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The Treo’s QWERTY keyboard means not having to re-learn how to type.
The Blackberry aslo has a QWERTY keyboard, and both are bluetooth ready. But instead of Excel and Powerpoint, Blackberry has instant messaging, which is great for people like Graciela who need to be in touch with their friends 24/7. The downside is that the Blackberry tends to reiceve a lot of junk mail, but that might not matter so much when you’re lost and using Blackberry’s GPS to find your way home.
When buying a Smartphone it’s important to consider what your priorities are: work or social life? What do you want your phone to do when you are stuck in traffic or snowed in at the airport? These questions will reveal which you should go for. Best, Roxie
