Faceoff: Crocs or Birks?

When it comes to foot-friendliness, how much style should you sacrifice in favor of comfort? Call me crazy, but I say none. They say crocs are good for people with jobs where they’re on their feet all day. Well, I hope its a job where people can’t see your feet. I get the appeal of crocs–they mold to the shape of your foot and don’t absorb germs. Its sort of the foot’s answer to the memory foam mattress. But you’d better be a school lunchlady or work at the DMV–so long as you’re behind a counter where people can’t see the grotesque, Day-Glo, rubbery fashion victims you call feet.

That being said, you can have comfort without completely sacrificing style. In keeping with the spirit of the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love, it behooves me to remind everyone that Birkenstock sandals are comfortable and stylish. The Birkenstock offers you the same slip on ease as a flip flop, but with a classic style that stands the test of times. If the classic birk is too, um, “hippie” for you, the good people who make birks also make more modern looking sandals. On the other hand if you’re getting ready to jump on Al Gore’s anti-global warming bandwagon, do it with the right footwear! Nothing says “tree hugger” like a classic birk.

Still need more style? Opt for the gladiator sandal–you know, the ancient Greek/Roman look. The goddess look is ALWAYS in. Me, I think I’ll get me a pair of Birks. Roxie’s looked so comfy when we were at the Mermaid Parade.
