Don't Hate Me 'Cause I Shimmer

My title is a play on that phrase ‘don’t hate me cause I’m beautiful’ – does that make sense? Sometimes my puns fall flat. (But at least my hair doesn’t do the same.) Anyway, let’s talk shimmer. The idea of gritty glitter stuck to my eyelids causes me to visibly cringe and wish horrible fates on any manufacturer who peddles that kind of stuff. But there’s nothing wrong with shimmery eyelids when done right. That means that the shimmer isstilashimmer.jpg ultra-fine and it reflects light. Basically? It doesn’t make you look like you’re off to a disco.

Spring is the perfect time to try some light-colored shimmery eye shadow. Dab a tiny bit on your lids when you wear the outfit that Brenae talked about the other day. (Sidenote: Bre, if you buy those Tory Burch shoes, I’m borrowing them, and that’s that! If and when the flat shoe trend ends, I won’t care – I’ll still be wearing flats. My feet love me for them.)
I feel inexorably drawn to Stila’s All Over Shimmer Eyes from Sephora ($18.00). You can choose from four colors. Champagne seems like a nice, natural choice and that’s what I’ll be getting. I want to shimmer, and I’ll be damned if anyone tries to stop me! Stila’s a brand that’s always fun, so I like it a lot.
For a more refined women over 40 style, I like the look of the Laura Mercier “Golden Mosaic” lmershimmer.jpgShimmer Bloc from Nordstrom ($38.00). There are other color options, but I think bringing out a subtle golden glow is just what I’d like right now. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love eye shadow palettes that do all the color coordinating for you. Plus, it cuts down on the clutter in a purse. And yes, I know a lot of us wear giant bags, but that doesn’t mean you want it to weight 80 lbs.

I know that’s one of the reasons I always like to buy eye shadow in a package like this. Then there’s no guessing ‘hey, what color should I use?’ cause they already figured it out for you. Some might call it cheating, I just call it…smart!

There’s one product that is causing a big fuss right now:Trish McEvoy’s Shimmer Shadow Base. So highly coveted, it is no longer available online from Saks
Fifth Avenue
($24.00).

But do call your local store if you’re curious. And I have to be honest, because of the popularity alone, I’m strangely compelled into wanting this. Does it work really well? If you try it, let me know.
