Designer’s Expo “Sample Sale” 440 Broadway, August 14-31

I was immediately suspicious of this “sample sale” as I watched the address numbers on Broadway slowly lead me deeper into Chinatown. Don’t get me wrong- I love grabbing an extra pair of funky earrings or chunky bangles at the odd little stands on Canal, but when it comes to “real designer” goods, it’s not exactly as reliable as 5th Avenue.

Once in front of the store subtly labeled: DESIGNERS EXPO SAMPLE SALE NOW, I was bombarded by store workers handing me flyers about designer jeans up to 80% off. The store was set up very similar to that OMG Levi’s store that pops up now and again along Broadway. It was completely no frills, with half finished walls and portable racks cluttering the large floor.
None of the jeans were marked down as much as promised. Diesel and Antik jeans were $90, Rock & Republic and True Religion were $120. Certainly this is less than the original retail price, but nothing to knock your socks off.

There were some cute dresses by C&C and Romeo & Juliet that were priced between $25-50 which isn’t terrible, but I was slightly concerned about the condition of the garments and the tags which look like they may have been tampered with.

None of the prices were substantially low enough to buzz my good-deal-o-meter, but it sure did strike a nerve in my shady-business-o-meter.

I say, skip this one and head to any department store. The prices were equivalent to an average sale at Bloomie’s or Macy’s and you won’t have to worry if Ed Hardy was hand sewn on in the break room.

Im sorry but i have shoped in this store plenty of times and I am very satisfied w/ their cheap prices and overwelmed by the service that thier staff provides. the prices you have mentioned are false i have baught the same brands for cheaper from designer expo nyc. I hope that you would change your research skills because it only show’s you have very poor observation! Next time bring a pen and paper and justto give you another hint you took the wrong picture. thank you and I’l be waiting for your reply soon.

    Robin,
I am sorry you were less than satisfied with my review, however, such a strongly opinionated response sounds suspiciously like you have more than an innocent consumerrelationship with the store. I posted the photo as an editiorial accesory to make my point which I still stand by. If you want to shop here, by all means go for it.
    Thanks for your comment,
    Loni
