Day Dresses for Now and Later
, New York, NY
It’s nice to invest in a piece that you can wear now and keep wearing through the summer. I mean, is that crazy talk or do you like the idea of getting more for your money? I’m going to assume you do and therefore, I’ve gone and picked out two dresses that you can wear now and later – provided you have the right accessories. These are both from Bloomingdales – mecca of all things good.
Except diet coke, I don’t think you can get diet coke there. Maybe that’s something to look into, Bloomies? For me?
First, we have this Theory Orlantha Tracery Silk Printed Pleated Dress for $360.00. The blue color gives it a nice pop.
Now: What you need to do is put on some textured tights. A gray or black will work, but blue would be pretty snazzy. Boots – keep them polished and without a lot of details like buttonwork – the dress is overwhelming enough. A big belted cardigan would be nice, as would a long-sleeved cropped cardigan. You can keep to the color palette or choose a golden yellow. Keep your hair down to lend you warmth.
Later: Strappy sandals will take you far. You don’t need a necklace with this dress, I’d advice against one. It will get lost in all of the visual information. A ponytail will look playful in your hair. A few thin silver bangles would be nice on your wrist.
We also have this BCBG Max Azria Fan Printed Matte Jersey Dress for $158.00. More blue, but blue is everywhere. You can’t walk three feet in a mall without seeing blue and/or yellow on apparel. Unless you had your eyes closed, but that’s just tricky.
Now: Slip on a turtleneck under this dress. It should be black or navy blue. The idea is to make it look like it’s actually part of the dress while still accentuating the dress since it’s what is most interesting. A white turtleneck could work, but it just depends on if the whites match. Because of the knotted tie at the neckline you should go without a necklace. Pair this with tights in black, tall & skinny boots, a large messenger bag, and a Starbucks mocha. Perhaps a scone.
Later: Keep everything bare – your legs, arms, neck. Pull your hair up and twist it in the back. Put on some big black sunglasses. People will mistake you for a celebrity. But don’t sign a fake autograph, it’s just wrong. When fall approaches, slip on a pair of jeans under the dress.
Ciao for now,
Jessica
