Cynthia Rowley End of Season Sample Sale Review 8/18

Another true blue sample sale, except this time options are limited. Cynthia Rowley’s 376 Bleecker Street End of Season Sample Sale kicked off this morning at 10AM and lasts until closing on Sunday, August 21st. Taking place in the back of their Village store, Rowley’s sale features a selection of her clothing, shoes, scarves, and bags, but not necessarily from the summer. I was less than impressed by the limited selection of shoes looked used and the purses were in less than stellar condition (i.e. visible scrapes on gold plating), leading me to believe these items were strictly used as ‘samples.’

However, don’t be discouraged, there were a few diamonds in the rough for those Rowley sycophants out there. One dress in particular stood out – a short, sailor stripped linen dress with a thick tie at its shoulder (Size Small, $59). Two other similarly crafted sailor dresses were in the mix, these featuring ¾ length sleeves. A select number of silk blazers were on hand ($99), a sure fire staple that is well worth its cost. The majority of the four modest clothing racks were occupied by lace dresses, in the colors red, black, and yellow ($99), but they were nothing to gawk at. Speaking of gawking, an obnoxious looking, feathery back statement jacket took up about half of one rack in particular ($289) with its mini-skirt companion resting beside it.

Don’t forget to check out the couch lined with an array of stockings, a variety of colors and patterns ($6) – a good chance to stock up before the Fall makes its way into our currently bare-legged lives. Along with the stockings sit a bin of decent looking scarves and my favorite, ribbed trouser socks ($7), perfect to wear under your summer sandals, allotting maximum time with your favorite summer wedge.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this isn’t the sale you were hoping for. If you find yourself perusing the Village this weekend, go ahead in to sneak a peek, but otherwise, don’t go out of your way for this one.
