11/12/10 Update: 30% Off Last Day

Catherine MalandrinoThe Catherine Malandrino sale is organized, neat, well stocked, and- pricey, for a sample sale.  I went in today at around 2.  There were many organized racks of well hung, beautiful Catherine Malandrino clothing from past seasons in the 4th floor of the Metropolitan Pavilion…but the prices were not low enough for me and about the other 70% of people walking out empty handed.  $125 for a sweater in winter!  Summer dresses for $155?   There were samples at this sale, but they were priced the same as the rest of the merchandise.  Ouch! How about for the fans who cannot afford a $95 blouse, yet?  If you like knowing how much something was before you snatched it at a sale, no luck here, most items do not have the original sales tags.
There was an incredible selection of merchandise, some of it from this season.  There were two racks from her Malandrino label in the back at 80% off retail.    Necklaces, and scarves were the only CM accessory, but there were sunglasses, and eyeglasses from Selima Optique ($100) and Tom Ford and Dior (50% off)
My problem with this sale is I felt like I was buying an airline ticket. 10% off if you RSVP, free tote worth $25 if you spend over $300 after 3pm today, 25% off today if you spent over $400 on the opening day, $25 gift card for use at the store.  Just throw a sale, where you are rewarding your customers with great deals!  On second thought, no, an airline ticket is simpler!!   It’s unfortunate, there were many hand picked by the designer items for purchase. If they were only listed as ½ off the current sample price, I would have spent some money.  The dressing rooms were spacious, the staff was attentive. No lines at the register, a small line to check in all of your belongings (you must check them in).  Great environment to shop for flattering clothes, but some bad pricing choices.  Will they reduce prices for the final day?  They will know tomorrow morning.  Overall, unless you have extra money to spend, this sample sale is not old-school enough to make it any good.
