How Generation Y finds inspiration in a fashion icon
Jackie O is undoubtedly one of fashion’s most revered style icons. She was known for her poise, grace and class, which she also translated seamlessly into her clothing. We all can take some notes from Jackie when it comes to style, here are some tips on how to incorporate Jackie O style into your own wardrobe.
Keep It Simple With Monochromatic Dressing
Jackie O was very refined and known for her simplicity. Dressing head to toe in one color is one of the easiest ways to convey simplicity and elegance. When dressing monochromatic make sure that all the shades are of the same shade and or one family. Also make sure to add great accessories like a long gold chain necklace or a belt to break it up a bit.
Diamonds Are Nice But So Are Pearls
Jackie loved to wear a strand of pearls with many different types of outfits from casual to dressy. You can find a great strand of freshwater pearls for 100 dollars but if you want the Rolls Royce of pearls opt for Mikimoto.
Classic Handbags
Jackie was not into trendy handbags but stuck to her few favorite classic designer handbags which are still in style and coveted even to this day. The three classic must have handbags are the Louis Vuitton Speedy 30, Gucci Jackie O hobo bag, and the Chanel logo chain-link quilted bag. Most of the other bags on the market are usually a variation of these three handbags.
Natural Hair and Makeup
You would never find Jackie O in too much makeup. She preferred a very natural and sophisticated look when it came to hair and makeup. You can achieve this neutral look by finding your exact shade in foundation, sticking with neutral eye shadows and blushes and finishing off with a rosy pink lipstick. As far as hair is concerned Jackie opted for a bob with natural highlights. You don’t have to cut your hair short to get the same feel, just make sure your hair color looks natural against you skin tone and also make sure that your highlights are very fine rather than big chunky steaks.
White Jeans
Jackie loved white jeans and knew that they made for a great foundation for cashmere sweater sets to Pucci printed tops. Look for slim fitting white jeans with a straight leg and pair them with nude slingbacks or peep-toes.
Oversized Sunglasses
Jackie O style wouldn’t be complete without a fabulous pair of oversized black plastic sunglasses. Opt for a shape that suits your facial structure. If you have a round face go for square frames and if you have more of a long face try the round styles. Chanel’s latest sunglass collection features fabulous oversized sunglasses with signature pearls on either side. Very Jackie O!

Bad news, we have to look like Blake Lively
I get my beauty news on WWD. Don’t get me wrong. I check Vogue, Allure, InStyle like any other gal out there, but I get my news on WWD. I came across an article on the shift in traditional notion of beauty that is emerging out of Hollywood, while checking out their beauty section last Friday.
I am used to WWD observing trends in beauty treatments or makeup, not in the medical field, but I guess PR companies share clients. Magazines establish relationships with PR companies, and end up covering things out of their realm of interest from time to time. One day I will share with you my theory on why bloggers are not the only ones to be blamed for advertorials.
Today I share the idea behind this article: Hollywood’s ideal is approaching something more human. The Barbie ideal makes room for a combination of Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Blake Lively. Well, let’s make this clear. Natural women are not the new norm, but the procedures are more refined and the results more settled. It is not that we are now allowed to let ourselves go – be old and wrinkled and not care about it. It’s just that we need more money, and employ better plastic surgeons, dermatologists, aestheticians, dentists, makeup artist and stylists.
This reminds me of a caricature I received from a friend years ago, after I moved to America.

11/12/10 Update: 30% Off Last Day
The Catherine Malandrino sale is organized, neat, well stocked, and- pricey, for a sample sale. I went in today at around 2. There were many organized racks of well hung, beautiful Catherine Malandrino clothing from past seasons in the 4th floor of the Metropolitan Pavilion…but the prices were not low enough for me and about the other 70% of people walking out empty handed. $125 for a sweater in winter! Summer dresses for $155? There were samples at this sale, but they were priced the same as the rest of the merchandise. Ouch! How about for the fans who cannot afford a $95 blouse, yet? If you like knowing how much something was before you snatched it at a sale, no luck here, most items do not have the original sales tags.
There was an incredible selection of merchandise, some of it from this season. There were two racks from her Malandrino label in the back at 80% off retail. Necklaces, and scarves were the only CM accessory, but there were sunglasses, and eyeglasses from Selima Optique ($100) and Tom Ford and Dior (50% off)
My problem with this sale is I felt like I was buying an airline ticket. 10% off if you RSVP, free tote worth $25 if you spend over $300 after 3pm today, 25% off today if you spent over $400 on the opening day, $25 gift card for use at the store. Just throw a sale, where you are rewarding your customers with great deals! On second thought, no, an airline ticket is simpler!! It’s unfortunate, there were many hand picked by the designer items for purchase. If they were only listed as ½ off the current sample price, I would have spent some money. The dressing rooms were spacious, the staff was attentive. No lines at the register, a small line to check in all of your belongings (you must check them in). Great environment to shop for flattering clothes, but some bad pricing choices. Will they reduce prices for the final day? They will know tomorrow morning. Overall, unless you have extra money to spend, this sample sale is not old-school enough to make it any good.
