Jewelry is a perfect gift for Valentine’s day. But the good news is – it’s 2007 and we’re empowered, so you don’t have to wait around for a man to buy it for you. Besides, since when did a man have better taste than you?

You can buy something for yourself, buy something for a friend, or keep this webpage open for your significant other to see and get a hint. Subtle enough? Heh. If you never hint at what you actually do want you might end up with something like a three foot tall stuffed walrus. Would that really blend into your rooms’ decor? I’m thinking not.

This is a fun, dare I say – funky, gift. The enamel heart on this bracelet is a black and white (‘cream’) checkerboard pattern, which I think makes it versatile not only for wardrobe options, but for who you can give it to. It’s not too expensive, so it’d be a great gift to hand off to a best friend. Whether your best friend is stylish or more likely to show up somewhere wearing stirrup-pants from the 80’s, I think that they’ll appreciate this cute bracelet. People always say stuff about wearing a heart on your sleeve, but I’ll spare you my lame attempt at a joke for wearing one on your wrist. Enamel Heart Bracelet at Banana Republic ($28.00) Also available in red.

Send out romantic vibes even if cupid isn’t in the neighborhood. He’s probably at home watching Lost, anyway! (And can he pretty please get Jack and Kate together?) This Juicy Couture necklace is super wearable because it’s both gold (14 karat) and silver (sterling). The arrow on the bow actually has a Swarovski crystal, too. I think it’s very cute and you could wear it as a daily necklace. Give it to your friend who won’t give up on love even though she hasn’t found ‘the one’, yet. This is also good for a beau to give to their romantic interest. It’s a quality gift, but it’s not as if it’s a diamond ring that says ‘let’s be super serious and combine our DVD collection!’ I don’t know about you, but I’m protective of my DVDs. Bow & Arrow Wish Necklace ($62.00)

Me? I’m totally 100% enamored with this briolette necklace from Banana Republic. It’s red, and daring, perfect for an open neck. When I found this I hardly noticed that I’d stopped my channel surfing on a Spanish TV station. I have since realized that, since I don’t speak Spanish and I had no idea what I was hearing. (Don’t tell my high school Spanish teacher’s this, mmkay?) Genuine Rubilite Briolette Necklace ($148.00)

Also, the Zasha Heart Pendant Necklace ($495.00) from Neiman Marcus is the sweetest heart and lock gold necklace. Great for anyone.

Ciao for now,

Jessica

Florals are a great choice for spring, especially this year. I can’t think of a year that florals wouldn’t be great for spring. The great thing about a flower is that you can wear one anywhere. From the print on your purse to the patchwork piece on your pair of pleather pants! Wear florals and wear them in abundance. One great choice is to wear a floral ring.

What could be prettier than a flowery bud on your hand? I decided to feature these when I saw this collection of Kenneth Jay Lane Flower Rings at Bloomingdales ($90.00). The enamel of the petals is so shiny, and it’s painted in four different colors: yellow, white, pink and black. Yellow is the big color right now, but I find myself leaning towards the girlish pink because it looks fun, but also elegant because of the gold trim.

If you’re looking for a ring that is purely dressy, you can’t go wrong with the LeVian 14K White Gold Chocolate and White Diamond Flower Ring at Macy’s (Sale – $$2,200.65). And I love that Macy’s offers custom ring sizing for free.

Juicy Couture never lets us down. They have this Onyx Flower Ring at Bloomingdales ($88.00). It’s a bold statement ring, and I love it.

It’s official – stars are in. When my friend had asked me if I’d seen pictures of Kate Moss at her 34th birthday, I knew exactly what they were about to mention next: the stars. Not only did Kate wear a Chanel navy attire with gold stars, she also had a gold star painted over one of her eyes.

If you want to get on the ‘star’ trend, go for it now so you can get the most wear from it. I haven’t been wearing a lot of rings, but when I went to Macys.com I saw this ring (#1) and I know that I would wear that happily. It’s a bold statement piece, and it’s fun. The stars are clustered in 3, which is a number I navigate towards because I have two sisters.

For extra twinkling, I like the Nadri Star Earrings (#2) from Nordstrom.com. Who doesn’t love Swarovski crystals?

If you want to take on the ‘star’ trend but want to invest in a piece you can wear forever, this piece, I’d suggest the North Star Locket Necklace (#3) from Neimanmarcus.com. It’s 14 karat gold with a white sapphire in the center. It’s an M2 Design by Mary Margrill.

Betsey Johnson always creates something fun, and she doesn’t let us down with her ‘Girlie Charms’ set, which includes these Star Linear Drop Earrings (#4) from Nordstrom.com. I may not be confident enough to wear exactly what Betsey would wear, but I know that I can handle the earrings and I’m sure you can too. Because they have hints of red, I’d wear some matte crimson lipstick or some shiny garnet lip gloss when I wore these. Make sure to pull your hair up and/or back if you have dark hair, otherwise the black stars will get lost in your hair – I know I’d have that problem.

Ciao for now,

Jessica
