As we welcome the winter season, with summer just a faint memory of the past, we find our pups begging with those irresistible puppy dog eyes for an ultra chic trendy coat or sweater to keep them warm as they prance around in the quickly approaching chilly winter weather. For the preppy pooch, we found this adorable Navy Melton Toggle Coat at Canine Styles, featuring two layers of thick Melton wool, Velcro fasteners, and the three wooden toggles that make this coat the bark of the town.
Even before your four-legged friend puts one paw into the crisp winter weather, make sure they’re comfortable and warm wearing a pair of Trixie + Peanut’s hippie chic suede Moccasin Boots.  This fashion forward footwear features a stylish fringe, rubber sole, and comes in a variety of fun colors including sienna brown, raven black and dusty rose pink.  With dual zippers and Velcro, you can slip these shoes on and off your best friend’s paws with ease.

If you have a spoiled rotten dog whose always looking their best, Trixie + Peanut’s ultra soft Zebra Swirl Cashmere Sweater is ultra rich in style and an absolute must have for your canine’s closet.  Available in colorful combinations including yellow/chocolate and coral/grey, these sweaters are made from the finest Italian cashmere and are perfect for playing in the snow or curling up by a warm crackling fire.
We all know how brutal New York City winter’s can be, so getting your pooch the snowy season essentials will keep them cozy and warm all season long.

Happy Halloween! We discussed some adorable Halloween costumes for your pooch last week, and now that the day has arrived, we want to share a few stay-safe tips to keep your BFF in tip-top shape.

1. Some dogs just need to stay in. Even the best behaved, most friendly dogs can be scared or spooked (no pun intended!) by caped crusaders and masked marauders out on Halloween night. Obviously, even if you intend to stay in, or if you intend to have your pooch stay in, you’ll likely have to take her out for the evening bathroom break no matter what.

Living in the city, you probably won’t be able to avoid a bit of  Halloween night ghoulish charm, but do what you can to make sure your dog can relieve herself in a well-lit area. Take a flashlight if you have to. You don’t want her to be startled!

2. Prepare your guests. If you’re hosting your own bash, and people will be coming in costume, make sure you alert them to the fact that you have a pooch (if they don’t know already) that may at first need to see them sans-mask/cape/hat/crazy costume in order to become accustomed to them. This is especially true if you’re expecting visitors your pup may not have met yet.

3. Ensure treats, not tricks. If you plan to stay in and entertain trick or treaters, again, don’t expect your dog to be up for the challenge. Even friendly barking dog could scare a child, and even a cutely costumed kid could scare your dog. In some cases it’s best to confine your pup to another room, or to her crate with an especially amazing chewie. If this creates more problems than it fixes, make sure your dog’s OK with costumes before putting it in what could be a high-stress situation.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

While parents of human kids and babies parade their offspring around in crazy costumes, there’s no reason why you can’t get creative with your canine kid. Whether you’re heading out to a party or staying home to hand out candy, make your pooch a part of this holiday by dressing them up, too!

There are plenty of canine costume options – from the very elaborate to the more basic – and I always maintain that you should dress your dog in whatever they can tolerate. If your pup is happy in a super frilly, decked-out outfit, then by all means make them Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, or a dinosaur, or Elvis.

But if your pooch needs to be a bit comfier, get something that more closely resembles, say a t-shirt or basic jacket. You can always decide not to make them wear the hats and other head gear that often come with doggie costumes. I don’t know about your dog, but mine would NOT be happy about something like that!

I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that my company, Earth’s Best Friend, which I’ve talked about before, has a kimono option that would be great as a costume. The doggy kimono jackets are made from recycled, authentic Japanese kimonos and would serve your pup well, as, say, a Samurai swordsdog outfit, or a Geisha costume (just a couple ideas I had)!

Whatever you decide, have fun and be safe on this great “holiday!”

If you’re like me, you’d likely go winetasting for any ol’ reason, or even for no reason at all! How much better would it be, then, if you were winetasting fo a cause?! Join the Rawhide Rescue and their Fourth Annual Winetasting and Silent Auction.

The event takes place Friday, October 17th at the Twin Brooks Country Club, 600 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ. Tickets are $65/person. We know, for many Manhattanites, New Jersey is a little bit out the way and $65 isn’t cheap, but it’s more than a week and a half away, so cut back on your lattes, carpool with a friend and make plans to help dogs while drinking wine, noshing on specially chosen hors d’oeuvres and eating from a dinner buffet with carving station.Doesn’t sound like a bad return on $65, huh?!

The silent auction will include fine jewelry, high-end dining, special event, sporting event, golf, art, fitness, and pet-related items.

Rawhide Rescue is a great group that provides a network of foster homes to animals in need. They assist with helping out homeless dogs and getting them placed in loving homes!
