It’s really something you have to see to believe – and tomorrow, you can! Bring your dog to Bideawee Learning center at 410 East 38th St. in Manhatan from 7:00-7:45 for a very special Doga class.
This “dog yoga” session is a partner class for you and your dog, and will be led by Kari Harendorf, one of the pioneers in this hybrid practice. If you’re still not convinced, Bideawee’s classes have been featured in articles in TimeOut New York, The New York Post, and The New York Times.
“Doga is all about bonding with your pet and giving the dog 45 minutes of undivided attention and praise from their favorite person in the world.”
Anyone who’s ever owned a dog or watched one carefully can tell you our canine companions already engage in practices like “downward dog” and “upward dog” – they were, after all, named after their species!
And don’t worry: You’ll also get a workout, while your dog assists you in traditional and modified poses. Admission is $18 per class and you can read more about it here.
This image looks great, but I KNOW my dog – even at 12 years old! – would NOT stand for me laying all over her like that!

As you probably know by now, I love a place that delivers. Anything to make my errands quicker, easier, and less painful. Which is why I love the idea of Whiskers at 235 E. 9th St. (1-800-Whiskers). AND – not only will this store deliver pet food and supplies to you – even if you live as far away as Brooklyn – they provide holistic food and products for your pet, and the love and expertise that go with it.
They are the first to point out that they aren’t vets – they can’t take the place of a professional recommendation – but they do know their stuff and they will find out specifically what your pet needs, and what types of foods, products and accessories will be best for her. After all, their philosophy is: The worst that can happen is that nothing happens. The best is that you will actively participate in maximizing the health and well being of those who love you without reservation, without the use of toxic, debilitating substances or invasive procedures.
And they operate based on these four principles:
• The health and well being of your companion animal, and of all animals in general is our primary concern.
• How that companion animal lived and ate in the wild is our model.
• Nature is the only perfect system… and the best healer.
• Your convenience and cost are major concerns because if it costs too much or is not convenient, you won”t do it.
I especially agree with the last one. My major hangup in buying holistically or organically isn’t that I question the value of the product, but more that I feel the value is INFLATED, and too expensive. Whiskers attempts to take care of that problem – all while making their products and services super-convenient for you!

Once you walk into this boutique, the reason for its name becomes obvious: For Pets Only. The recently-opened boutique features all kinds of treats -n- goodies for your precious pet. It’s located at 87 Mercer St. and carries everything from couture collections to pampered pet products for grooming.
Of course, when it comes to really doing well in a business like this, it seems like 50% of it is the presentation, and For Pets Only really has it nailed down. They use adorable miniature pieces of furniture in some of their displays, which, of course, fits with the theme of pampering and clothing your tiny friend.
Not that “For Pets Only” needs to work that hard to sell their products – they’ve got just about all the cache any kind of appparel company could hope for. They were founded ten years ago in Milan – and now, upscale Italian (pet) design is in New York City! “We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring Italian luxury to American pets and are celebrating our love for pets with a grand opening party at our new SoHo boutique,” said Silvia Savi, owner of For Pets Only.
Where many pet boutiques focus on outfitting dogs, For Pets Only also has a huge supply of cat products. All clothing in the store is handmade in Italy, featuring special details such as Swarovski crystals and couture craftsmanship.

Dogs and dancing. Two of my favorite things in the whole wide world! Fortunately for me – and people like me, it was someone’s genius idea to put the two together! One such event will be taking place on Saturday and will feature an Intro Dance Class (Triple Swing): 8:30–9:30 p.m. and a Multi-Style Dance Party: 9:30 p.m.–Midnight
If you can’t make this event, you’re not out of luck!
