Calming Yourself Without Doing Downward Facing Dog

27 March 2008

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t need to de-stress. The keyword for today’s beauty post is “calm”. Now, you can try something like yoga – but I’ve tried to focus on a word (I always pick the word apple, weird?) but it doesn’t help me. I’m fully ready to admit that I don’t do yoga properly. But that’s fine with me, because I’ve found my own ways to feelfacehydrator.jpg relaxed and calm. Putting on a little classical music (I adore film score soundtracks) and doing a beauty treatment works wonders for me.

I love a good moisturizer for my face. N.V. Perricone M.D. makes the Olive Oil Polyphenols Face Hydrator. It sounds like The Terminator a little bit, right? THE HYDRATOR! (Coming to a theater near you!) I want to rub it into my face and feel it soak in while I watch an episode of 30 Rock.

While any age or skin type can use it – it’s especially great for more thisworksdeepcalm.jpgmature skin. Why? Because it helps decrease pesky wrinkles and lines on your gorgeous face. You can get it from Sephora ($70.00), and there’s currently no shipping fee.

The brand This Works (great company name) has the Deep Calm Bath and Shower Oil at Barney’s ($60.00). Relax with the scents of lavender and camomile. I sometimes love to take a shower or bath at night to unwind, and I would use this. This is also something I would use on a weekend where I know I’llbabygrace.jpg feel compelled to work, but don’t have to do anything that day.

You can trick your mind with scents! It does work. Your sense of small is way more powerful than you believe. It’s one of the more underrated senses. It probably is holding a grudge.

Along the lines of scent, philosphy’s Baby Grace fragrance is comforting and will make you feel safe and lovely. You can purchase it as Macy’s ($40.00). This reminds me of staying at my Aunt and Uncle’s lake house in early spring. You wake up late (or early, depending on who you are) at 9 a.m. and walk out on the deck that overlooks the lake.

The breeze is soft, and the sun is casting a warm glow on your bare arms. You know the day will be spent on a boat (while you wear a cropped white crocheted sweater), and you can’t wait to drink some white cranberry peach juice. I love that feeling. I’m glad that feeling is in a bottle.
