Bruno Magli Sample Sale: No Love For Bigfoot
, New York, NY
The heavenly aroma of freshly baked croissants and sharp sting of artisanal cheese are smells that waft throughout the rustic hallway of the Chelsea Market. Bruno Magli is holding a sample sale here today until Sunday, within the designer sale space, Privé. The artistic undertones of the showroom gives the Bruno Magli Sample Sale the extra kick it needs.
Ample space and a variety of sizes of leather heels occupy tables that are organized to perfection. Before browsing the shoe selection I made a pit stop at the purse table. All handbags are fairly priced at $149 and each and every one of them are in pristine condition, a rare occurrence at a sample sale. Only a few choices as far as bags go, but those worth a peak are the Tedala Bag in cranberry, brown, purple, and blue, as well as the Classic Black Volturrio and, my personal favorite, a suede, Cunegonda Handbag in a rustic pink and army green (all $149).
The hustle and bustle seemed to be confined to the rear of the sale, where tables sat, organized by size, with a random selection of shoes all for only $49. I was disappointed to discover that the sale strictly features sizes 36, 37, 38, 39, and 40, with a few half sizes here and there. No love for big feet. The low priced shoes were not in as great of condition as everything else in the sale, a few scuffs here and there but nothing too severe. Some interesting finds here were the Scapa Diona Driving Shoe in Campioni (Size 37 – $49), and the Pedace Peep Toe Heel in Ice Blue (pictured, Size 37 – $49).
Now, on to the good stuff. Mazes of tables were stacked with shoeboxes, each to seemingly hold at least one of every size for each style shoe. Nothing truly wow-ed me, but every shoe had its potential, making up for the lack of wonderful. Said potentials included the Salassa Patent Leather Slingback in White ($159, orig. $340), the Intragragna Sued Black Heel w/ Ankle Wrap ($159, orig. $355), Offlagg Pebble Grain Sky High Black Hell w/ Side Zip (pictured), and my favorite of the group: the Kassidy Nero in Black, an interesting patent leather wedge with a peep toe ($159, orig. $340 – pictured).
I only spotted one pair of sandals (that were worthwhile anyway) and those were the Hillarie Keni’s in Taupe ($129, orig. $398). Other featured items were men and women’s leather belts for $49 and a variety of flats, namely the Olivia Quilted Flat in a variety of colors ($159).
Overall, there’s nothing special about the Bruno Magli Sample Sale, but the fact that it’s situated in a fun space, surrounded by interesting food spots, makes the browse worth it, especially if you’re able to find a pair of shoes or two.
