Bergdorf Goodman Final Sale Review 1/27

Let’s get this out of the way right up top: the Bergdorf Goodman sale happening right now is no Saks Fifth Avenue sale from a few weeks ago. Discounts are steep, but everything’s still expensive and it lacks the je ne sais quoi (read: madhouse cheapo atmosphere) of Saks. Nonetheless, there are plenty of rewards in store for the dedicated shopper.

The sixth floor is your best bet for high end designers. We spotted a showstopping gold Burberry wool trench for $779 (marked down from $1295). An Akris ruffle-front white tee is a steal (for the brand, at least) at $89 from $360 and a tweed Moschino with keys sewn to the collar is statement (and investment!) worthy. At $499 from $1995, it’s also one of the best bargains in the building.

As with Saks, some of the best deals can be found in the bridge designers selection. A pair of denim Repetto jazz shoes are perfectly on trend at $115 (from $285). In a rarity for department store sales, the denim selection is great: we found Citizens of Humanity skinny jeans for $69 (from $163). The 90s are in full force at Bergdorf: check the Tiffany blue Dolce & Gabbana rabbit fur cropped jacket ($499 from $1995) – very Clueless.

Looking for an evening gown? Have some money to burn? You could do much, much worse than a floor-length Badgley Mischka blue sequined dress covered with black tulle overlay ($2389 from $3990). In what has got to be the statement piece of the sale, a Marchesa strapless white feathered cover mini ($2375 from $3960) looks like a leftover from Black Swan and, just like the movie itself, will haunt our dreams.

Sale selection amongst the high-end designers on the second and third floors is slim to nil, but there are still few gems: a Michelle Obama-esque charcoal draped Thakoon sheath is an almost-unbelievable $199, marked down from $850. A Yves St. Laurent little black dress can be yours for just $349 (from $1390). It’s not Saks, but hey, these prices are pretty damn good for Bergdorf.
