Barneys New York Warehouse Sale Review 8/25

While trying on a pair of gold Lanvin stilettos at Day One of Barney’s Warehouse Sale in Chelsea, I clicked their heels three times and repeated the phrase, “There’s no place like home,” hoping by some miracle I would be transported out of the crazed-shopper-mania. As predicted, the first day of Barney’s Warehouse Sale drew in the masses. To give you an idea – over one hundred shoppers were lined up just after 7AM, nearly an hour before the sale even began.

Barneys New York Warehouse Sale - Bags and AccessoriesOnce through the doors you are asked to check your purse and in exchange, are handed a small, clear bag for your smaller belongings (i.e. wallet and cell phone), and a massive, XL garbage bag for your desired purchases. You then find yourself venturing toward the congested, towering racks of pilled shoes, separated by size. The narrow aisles cause chaos for those who wish to browse, and prove life risking to try on a single sandal (right shoe is on display, flock to a separate line to pick up its matching pair). Elbow your way through to then discover the purse mania. Elbows were flying as ladies pulled out not so impressive leather purses from the heaps satchels. I sorted through, finding nothing more impressive than out of date styles for $89-$249.

I personally bee lined it to the designer clothes section. If you are looking for a steal, bring your game face and be aggressive! No one is your friend! Women snatch right from one another’s hands! In the “Designer Red Star Stamped” area, Alexander Wang jumpsuits ($79) were rolled out and quickly pounced upon while I was admiring a Rodarte sleeveless sweater dress ($359). A gorgeous, cream Stella McCartney tank top as well as a Stella McCartney rustic orange dress were hidden in between multiple Moschino dresses and a Balenciaga frock ($559), proving that there are exciting, hidden finds that are pushed to the back or dropped on the floor awaiting discovery. Warning: I took notice to many beautiful designer pieces with snags and stains caused by violent shoppers, (how sinful!), therefore be sure to do a thorough inspection before dropping $600 on a Versace blazer. Most dresses and tops had no sale prices attached to them in this section, which I presumed was due to said ferocious shoppers, who may have accidentally unfastened them with their unnecessary aggression, so you may have to wait for the pieces to be priced at the check out table.

My favorite section by far was the organized tables of designer jeans. An attendant assured neatness, assuring all sizes stayed properly in place. Sizes ranged from 23-31 and featured denim by J Brand ($99), Current Elliott ($139), Genetic Denim ($89) and Seven For All Mankind($109).

Plenty of  Phillip Lim sweaters and silk dresses were scattered throughout, as was a Balenciaga crackled green leather jacket.

I for one am a huge proponent of The Row and was disappointed when I was unable to locate anything by their brand. There was, however, a beautiful sheer cream top by them in the “Imperfects” section, but for some reason was still marked for the regular sale price of $239.

So there you have it – the sale everyone fawns over is here to stay until Monday, September 5th. If you find yourself with a truckload of patience on one of those days – go get yourself some designer wear!
